Like @looch I don't buy outfits. I buy neutral pants/leggings that can be worn with pretty much all her tops.

At 4.5 she lives in dresses/tunics. The weather in the PNW is super mild and her new fall wardrobe can basically be worn all year long (September through June). I like to have enough stuff to not stress about doing laundry and also so we can pack enough for a vacation where laundry may not be an option. I know I'll also lose an outfit or two as spare outfits that live at school and in the car

Leggings - I aim for about 10 new pairs (5 light grey and 5 navy and a few black)
Jeans/Jeggings - 2
Tunics/Dresses - More than needed but I usually do laundry 1x a week (and with a newborn on the way I don't want to stress about having clean clothes for her). I aim for about 12 new items that are well made and will last all year. I want most of these to be casual and appropriate for school/play but nice enough to be worn to a party/celebration/outing. No dry clean only items or clothes that need extra special care bc I don't have the time or energy for that - treating stains is enough for me! Then I have a few hand me down tops/dresses and a few that I buy at a consignment sale.
Cardigans - 1-2
PJs - about 5 and she'll get gifted holiday pjs
Socks/Underwear - 12
Special Occasion - I don't buy anything super fancy or expensive. But I usually end up getting 1-2 dresses that are dressier than everyday clothes and I also buy a dress specifically to be worn for the holiday season/Santa photos.
Coats/Jackets - one raincoat, one lightweight coat and one heavy coat.

I no longer buy outfits, just mix and match stuff. All bottoms have to go with all tops. Laundry primarily on weekend, occasionally I will do a load midweek.

Pants: 6 pairs shorts/6 pairs pants (no jeans)
Tops: 4 short sleeved, 6 long sleeved (no button downs)
Toppers (vests, sweatshirts, etc): 2 fleece vests, 1 zip up sweatshirt
Dressy clothes: 0. If we have an event, I will shop specifically for that
Pajamas: 7 sets
Shoes: 2 pairs sneakers, 1 pair snow boots, 1 pair rain boots, 1 pair crocs
Coats: 1 heavy duty, 1 rain type jacket
Socks/underwear: as many as possible, no limits, lol

Probably 6 days worth for DD. She has more dresses than pants/tops combos because she would wear a dress every day if they were all clean at the same time. I do laundry every 3-4 days so our stuff gets a lot of wear. DS probably has 7-8 days worth but I know he needs new pants for fall. I don't think he needs more than 5 bottoms at any given time. As for PJs, 3 sets each works well for us.

Between new to us hand-me-downs and things that she already had, I put together 13 school outfits for fall - either dresses/leggings or shirts/pants. Some of these will transition to winter with a cardigan or we have a few sweatshirts or sweaters that could be swapped in during colder months, so I am trying to hold off on buying anything else. She only goes to school three days a week, so those outfits will last a whole month. We have some other random separates that I will cycle through on off school days and the weekend (maybe 5 pants and 6-8 tops).

I am for about weeks. I work outside the home and tend to do laundry over weekends. I also.tend to change her if she gets dirty and I figure I'm going to.lose about 1/3.of my stuff to stains etc. She also wears.a new.complete outfit every day because I plan her outfits for daycare at the beginning of the week and put them in baggies for DH to dress her from (he is the primary morning parent and finds putting outfits together in a time crunch stressful).

For this autumn/winter I have about 6 pairs of.pants and 4 leggings (likely to add 1-2 more pants), 10 long sleeved shirts and about 6-7.long sleeved dresses with tights to go with (about 6 pair so far but we will likely get about ten- we use them instead of socks under pants in winter).

I buy very cheap (consignment sales, thrift sales and clearance) and sell when I'm done, so it costs me very very little to.clothe her, so I dont.mind buying a lot to.make life easier.

I need at least a week and a half worth of stuff, if not two. So 10-15 outfits.

I always end up with too much clothes because I can't help myself. But I like to get enough to last a week. So probably 5 bottoms, 2-3 dresses, 6-7 tops. But I have about double that, haha. I don't take my own advice.

How many clothing items do you aim to have per season? As in, how many pairs of pants, shirts, dressy outfits, pajamas etc...

I'm working on the girls wardrobes for fall and I'm trying to determine if I need to get LO1 a few more basics. I know it depends on how often laundry is done, but I'm just looking for an average!
