I had them until 34 weeks with M. I had to go in and have a nurse give them to me.

@Math.Nerd - I had a very similar experience with my first (who will be 6 in March), if I hadn't found out through a sort of unrelated series of events that I had a uterine septum then I probably wouldn't be pregnant now. One thing I found reassuring was meeting with a MFM well before we started trying to figure out what pregnancy would look like this time. It's not just shots, I am being monitored more closely this time in general.

@torchwood I had PTL bit didn't have LO til 39wks. My MFM said for baby 2 they would do progesterone shots and regular vaginal u/s to check cervical length, then go from there. I also got steroid shots for lung development and was on modified bedrest this past time.... I had shortened/funneled cervix and lots of ctx.

@BandDmommy: Thank you. Seems like i was in the same boat as a lot of people, with my first my water spontaneously ruptured at 33 weeks and he was delivered four hours later.

I did get steroid shots with the pregnancy at 34 weeks to develop his lungs since I have an irritable uterus. So far, all seems well.

Interested to read this. I seriously doubt we'd risk another, but we're sort of discussing it. Did y'all have to do anything else different to help with preventing preterm labor?

@BandDmommy: I got them with my dd. I had the same set up, the nurse came to me every week, took my bp, listened to the baby's hb, and gave me the shot. I ended up delivering at 36+3, just a few days after my last shot. My doctor said she'll have me do the shots again when I have another baby.

Not currently but was with my second pregnancy due to having DD preterm (preterm labor at 32 weeks born at 36). And I will have to be on them again if we have a third. My DR taught DH how to give them and we did them at home. I was constantly itching my butt but it did seem to help, DS was born at 40 weeks.
A nurse coming to the house would have been so nice! But my insurance did not cover the shots.

@math.nerd: DS was born at 34 weeks, water broke unexpectedly. With DD I was on progesterone suppositories, when I stopped at 36 weeks she was born a day or so later. My insurance at the time was not approving shot due to cost. With third pregnancy, my insurance now covered shot. Since I've had two preterm births they prescribe progesterone.

@BandDmommy: I'm not currently pregnant, but I will likely have to have progesterone shots if I do become pregnant again. My water broke at 28 weeks with my son and he was born after three weeks hospital bedrest at 31 weeks. Can I ask why you're on the shots? Have you had any pregnancies after your premature labor? We are thinking of trying for another, but I'm scared to end up in the same boat again!

I was on them for my second pregnancy. I too had to drag my toddler to my appointment every week. It was fast and I actually got to know my nurse very well! They must have worked because I ended up delivering at 40w5d (compared to 30w5d the first time around).

I'll be on them when I get to 16 weeks. My insurance also covers a nurse to come and give them to me. I am kinda worried since I am pretty sensitive to hormones (I can't take hbc it makes me depressed) but I'll cross that bridge when I get to it.

When this pregnancy gets that far along I will be going into the office for weekly shots. I have 8 or 9 weeks before I start them. Needles are not my favorite but if it means my little one will bake long enough I suppose it's no issue.

After conceiving with IVF, I gave my own progesterone shots until 11 weeks.

You had to do them weekly? I had them daily and after some spotting at 8 weeks, I was told to increase my shots to 2x a day. My butt was so sore and eventually the soreness went away.

Just curious.. I have a nurse that comes weekly to give me my shot and she was telling me there are over 100 women in my area that are currently receiving shots. Which is interesting since you have to have had pre term birth and not have multiples.
