We did a lot with her, still went out to eat and places around town and traveled a decent amount . The only thing we backed out of was a wedding that was a 10 hour car ride away when she was 7 weeks old. DH and I weren't really feeling the drive just the two of us and when we added baby we were like def no. But we had done several 3-4 hour car rides at that age to visit family and those went fine.

I had a colicky, difficult newborn; but she was often ok during the day and generally fine in public so we actually got out to lunch often while I was still on maternity leave. (Evenings and nights were the worst time for her and absolutely nothing got done from 5pm-the next morning). Once she was a few months old, she's been a pretty easy baby and has a great, happy and curious disposition, so it's easy to do whatever with her.

She's 1 and has been on 11 flights now, and we've got a few more planned for this summer. Once we got the first one out of the way the rest have been gravy. We've also taken multiple car trips/weekend getaways and she's been great. We've gone to the zoo's, outdoor concerts, etc with her and she seems to really enjoy it all. I agree with @SaraC that I think being a laid back and relaxed parent helps; especially if you can go with the flow if your plans need to change (either b/c of your LO, you, or outside forces). Being able/willing to adapt is key.

We went on a week long road trip at eight weeks and have spent the night in about fifteen places already and she's only three months old.
I'm fairly confident we'll be able to do a lot with her.

All of my big plans worked out just fine. It just depends on the temperament of your baby, and on how relaxed you are as a parent.

We usually do a lot with LO. We have both sets of grandparents living near us so it's easier with their help... especially because we also like to bring our dog places if it's doggy friendly. But if it's something DH and I want to do and no help comes, we still go.

@T-Mom: I've had such a Schlittebahn craving lately lol! This hot weather would be soo perfect for it!

@TurtleDoves: That's awesome! :)

@swurlygurl: Ugh, yeah. The weather here has been horrendous, and I doubt I'll be able to take her for many walks with August weather being as it usually is.

@regberadaisy: DH keeps telling me to take it one day at a time :) I think it's good advice!

@Mrs. Bee: Maybe I should take LO to Europe or something, get the big trip out of the way so the rest doesn't seem scary! ;) But really, reading your recaps of the trips with your two has definitely been helpful!

With one, we did a lot.. lots of international trips to see family, lots of fun stuff. With two we have been doing less traveling since the older one's schedule with lessons and activities is keeping us closer to home. I haven't been to Ren Fest OR Schlitterbahn with them yet! I'm kind of scared of Ren Fest (just such a haul for us and don't want to deal with the traffic) and I really want to go to Schlitterbahn!

@Bookworm: I had a lot of grand plans for my maternity leave (lot's of lunches with friends, check out a mom's group, take infant massage and cpr classes at the hospital, story time at the library, attend a wedding as a family, visit my work, DH's work, my old work, etc.). Most of them didn't happen. I underestimated how long I would need to recover from birth, how little time I would have to shower and get ready every day, how fussy LO would be, how often he would eat (EBF), how often he would need to be put down for a nap, etc. He also hated his car seat, stroller, moby wrap and bjorn carrier the first several weeks. So unless he was asleep I wasn't going anywhere!
I was upset about it at first, but then I really cherished the moments I had with him at home. Now he's getting to a more fun stage where I fully understand his eating and sleeping needs and he's starting to like his car seat and stroller more. So hopefully we will get out and about more in the future!

We didn't particularly have plans, but I think we definitely did more than we planned for! We went on multiple trips, one all the way from US east coast to Sydney australia in the midst of unpredictable nursing strikes (we haven't even tried formula at that point so we have no back-up solution) when he was 5 months, while others are shorter things to Canada (to see grannies) or to Aruba. It is not easy, and require a huge amount of planning and a lot of gear, but we did it and he was pretty good most of the time *knock on wood* :) We are going to iceland in August, and this will be the first big sightseeing trip (we mostly just hung out for the sydney trip with my friend, who lives in Sydney and has the same age baby, while husband worked)

One big hurdle we still haven't done is going to Hong Kong where my mom is. This one I thought would have happened sooner, but it still hasn't happened yet. I am just a bit afraid to go through the time zone change again, and besides we'll have to take weeks off to go to Hong Kong ( we usually only got for a few days pre-baby), so it is a big challenge.

Other things we are looking forward to: football games and disney.

We went to the zoo when our son was itty bitty, he loved looking at the fish in the aquarium tanks, we also went to the beach at 8 months, which he loved. The one trip that was a little meh was the one we took at 4 months, but that was more for us to get out of the house more than anything. So, in short, we do whatever. Big things like the Grand Canyon, Hawaii, etc, we will wait until he's older. We're going to Disney in September, I think I am the most excited of all!

We had a few plans in the beginning that just did not play out. LO was extremely colicky. We were lucky we made it through Christmas. When he was awake, he was crying, yet he wouldn't sleep much. So it was pretty bad for us. We didn't go anywhere or do anything!

so we're making the trip again this year. i feel like we can travel anywhere now. :)

I had lots of plans, but then I realized that a lot of them could wait until she was older. Not because it was too hard to take her, but because it wouldn't be that fun for us until we could enjoy LO enjoying it. Take the zoo, for example. The zoo is alright, but it would be more fun to watch a toddler at the zoo than a 4 month old. We're still doing trips, vacations with friends, etc. I think a lot of success depends on how flexible you are and how well you manage expectations.

We are doing them all as we go! But LO is a super easy baby, so that helps. I know not all babies are like that!

For things that we really, really want her to remember, we are holding off on until she is older (ex. Disney)

Now that LO is almost here, I keep having these ideas of things to go do with her. The Texas Ren Fest is coming up in November - we can totally do that! Schlitterbahn next year? Totally! Why not take her to San Antonio at Xmas time?! Things like that :p

Anyone else have these ideas of things they wanted to do with their baby? How did they end up going once LO actually got here? I'm worried that I'm being too optimistic, but I can't help it! There are so many things I want to do as a family! :)
