@Pirouette: what I wrote is just for one waking -- she's been doing two lately so I think she's eating around 12 oz per night, give or take. She also eats twice before bed (a bottle around 5 and nursing around 6:15) and both are full feedings. Sometimes she'll actually want to nurse again about an hour later, too. I think it's partly that she reverse-cycles a bit but even so, I don't think your LO is that unusual. It's just funny to think how much milk it really is!

@char54: yea, i'm new to the whole wake up thing entirely, she used to STTN without issues! but she's also sick, so i'm HOPING this isn't the new normal :) she's still going 3-4 hours between feeds, but waking 1-2 times during the night, probably because of the cold.

@swurlygurl: haha! i'd do the same. she's so tiny, i can't deny her food! there's definitely an element of comfort with the feeding when she wakes up, especially since she was going 10 hours without food before. that's why it always drives me crazy when people say "don't feed for comfort during the night, only for hunger" - it's rarely JUST one or the other!

@Pirouette: oh yeah, that's just one wake up. She used to have two wakeups and two bottles, so maybe 8-10 oz total overnight.

@Pirouette: Although, I will say around 13 months was when we realized she was playing us, and after 3 8-oz bottles of milk every middle of the night for 2 or so weeks, I took her to the Dr and she told me to knock that nonsense off... haha. We did one night of sleep training with her and she hasn't woken up since. So, I think that her MOTN feedings were half comfort half necessary when she was younger, and then grew to be all comfort. It wasn't until 13 months that I felt okay with denying her though - I'd still probably do it all the same. :)

ETA: And she's still a pretty insatiable eater when it comes to table food too!

@Pirouette: very rarely did she have 2 wakeups , but if she did and they were 4 hours apart I would offer another full bottle. If the wakeups were close then I would try to rock/ offer the soother.

@swurlygurl: wow! ok, so i guess it's not that unusual! i had always just assumed night wakings were like "top off" feedings, where the baby would take maybe 3 oz max! so i was worried she wasn't eating enough during the day, but doesn't seem like that's the case!

@Pirouette: Yes and yes! It wasn't that rare for her to wake up 3 times and have a total of 20+ ounces (on top of 20-30 ounces during the day!). I was getting concerned, but she was always a pretty skinny baby, so her ped never thought much of it :bummed:

@PurplePeony: yea i usually nurse at night, and she always drains (though she never used to wake at all, so this is fairly recent). but this week she got bottles during the night and took 10-13 oz overnight...just seems like a lot to me! but the 13 oz was 2 wakeups.

@swurlygurl: @char54: @Anagram: are these all just one wakeup? if you ever had 2 wake ups in a night, did that # double?

I don't know for sure because we just nurse, but DD always eats really well during the night. She pretty much drains a full boob, which (based on how much I can pump) is roughly 6-8 oz and maybe even a little more, since babies are more efficient than pumps.

When I was feeding L for MOTN wakeups (6 months - 13 months) she would eat anywhere from 4 - 8 ounces, usually closer to 8.

Just wondering, if you bottle feed for motn wakeups, how much does your lo usually take over the course of the night? I had always assumed that when lo nursed at night, she didn't eat that much, but she was bottle fed overnight this week and ate a lot! Just wondering if that's typical.
