A good rule of thumb is at least one ounce for every hour you are away from baby. I usually am away for 9 hours, so I sent 9 oz. in the beginning. H wasn't a big drinker so she usually took 3 3oz. bottles at the beginning, then 3 4oz. bottles. When she was in a growth spurt, she would take 15 oz. per day.
