@BabyTsMom: it was a sudden drop really but he also had some other stuff going on. He had surgery to repair his cleft palate which really changed everything about his eating routines. He is still excited about solids and feeding himself but is drinking better now too. If I had to guess we are getting about 16oz of liquid per day at this point. I'm not sure what's "normal", but I think when I wrote that post I was worried about dehydration because he was taking only 6 or 8 oz per day.

@jhd: btw, do you recall how much formula your LO was drinking prior to ramping up his solids? i.e., was it a drastic, sudden drop, or was it more of a gradual drop?
Now, 4 weeks after this post, my LO is definitely eating more solids and is gradually reducing his intake of fomula. Just curious!

@illumina: good to know! Seems like 16oz is a good number to shoot for if he's eating plenty of solids. :)

@BabyTsMom: he is 9.5 months. Something just clicked with the solids and he's really excited about it. Yesterday's breakfast was the first time he ate that much. it was crazy!

Around 9 months she was drinking 20-24oz per day, but she was only having 2 meals per day still as it took her quite a long time to get into solids. Since about a year old she has been drinking around 16oz per day, slightly more sometimes and less other days.

@jhd: my LO is almost 9 months and has 29-32oz a day. He doesn't eat nearly as much solids as yours does, though! Some of these responses actually have motivated me to offer him more solids. I'll start with breakfast tomorrow!
BTW how old is your LO?

@jhd: ah yea i'd be more concerned about dehydration. Although peaches are pretty juicy :) I'm sure it isn't a big deal, in the short term anyways. Hopefully your doc has some good ideas for getting him to drink more formula or water!

@Mae: No, he hasn't had any water. I did offer a little juice mixed with puree because I'm worried about constipation. I left a message for the doc this afternoon. Sometimes he acts like he doesn't like the taste of formula anymore. Other times he's just too busy with his food. ;)

@jhd: is he drinking water? I mean maybe you could ask your ped to be sure it is fine if it continues... but it seems like if he's eating that much I can't imagine it isn't okay :)

@jhd: so i'm a notorious food worrier but if my LO was eating that much I wouldn't worry about milk :) My ped told us that by 9 mo she could be drinking as little as 16oz of milk if she was doing well on solids. As long as he is consuming calories and isn't having tummy trouble I feel like it's fine. When in doubt I remember that my brother survived infant hood on bottles full of 2% cow's milk. YES REALLY. I've come to realize kids are more resilient than they seem lol.

@Mae: @luckypenny: @twodoghouse: thanks so much for your input, ladies! he has really taken off with solids, especially in the last week, but he's also not wanting to drink so it's stressing me! Babies definitely keep you on your toes!! ;)

@luckypenny: sounds like T's breakfast this am: yogurt, waffle, and a cup of diced peaches. I couldn't believe it!

I've been wondering this too. My twins are just over 9 months and are BF and FF. They seem to get most of their calories from formula, though. They are not eating much solids. Anyway, they range from 28-32 oz. most days. They eat ten million times per day. Ok, like 7-9 bottles and 2-4 times at night. I think they are formula fed babies on a breastfeeding on demand schedule? I think their growth is ok, but I know Alice has slowed way down since 6 months. I think she's a couple pounds lighter than Blake now. I'll be curious to see what our ped says at their appt next week.

Eta: at our 6 month appt our ped said we should start increasing the amount of solids and formula intake should be at least 18-24 oz, though more was ok. We haven't been able to get going with solids too well due to digestive issues and sleep problems with solids, but that will be my target as we continue to increase solids.

18oz or so. She has. 6 oz bottle before morning nap, 6oz before afternoon nap and 6oz before bedtime. She is 10 months old.

She has a huge breakfast as soon as she wakes up - pancake, yogurt, 1 egg (scrambled or hard boiled) and fruit. Lunch and dinner go the same way. Girl can eat.

My LO is 9mo tomorrow. Most days she drinks 34 ounces. She gets a 9oz bottle at wakeup, two 8oz bottles during the day, and a 9oz bottle before bed. She almost always finishes all of them. She isn't eating a lot of solids yet though. Most often maybe 2-4(max) ounces of puree, maybe 1/4 a scrambled egg, less than 1/4 a piece of diced fruit, and like a handful of puffs and/or melts.
