By 9 months he was eating at least a jar and a half and some finger foods at each meal. Soon after that, though, he started pushing away the purees and wanting only "big people" food.

B gets 2 meals a day, lunch and dinner. At lunch she eats a whole container of yoghurt ( 100g../ 3.5oz) plus I give her 2-3 icecubes of fruits that I've pureed for her. Not sure how much an icecube size is.. I think when I've used the jars I get about 4-5 cubes worth from 1 of the small jars?
At dinner she gets 3 cubes of a main meal ( I usually have spaghetti and meat sauce, salmon and broccoli, chicken..etc) and then 2 cubes of veggies. Sometimes after dinner she's still hungry so I'll give her half a youghurt.

She'll let you know when she's had enough, they'll usually start playing with it, or just not opening your mouth. I always thought I was feeding B too much, but now that I know her cues, it's obvious when she's full.

@lawbee11: and don't give up because of the gagging. My LO used to gag constantly, even on the totally smooth purees. A few times I thought she was really choking and I ripped her out of the high chair and turned her upside down to pound on her back (and she spit up profusely, poor girl).

BUT, it's just a learning process and I just kept giving her small finger foods on a regular basis until she started getting it. She's improved so much just over the last month.

Your LO will get there! Some kids take to solids immediately, and other really have to be "taught". I always sit down with LO and eat something at the same time and make exaggerated chewing motions and show her what I'm doing with the food. It's weird but seems to work.

My LO isn't a big eater and probably only finished a whole container of bought purees once or twice. She's refusing purees right now (at almost 10 months) and only wanting finger foods so I'm sure she's eating a bit less, but I think that's okay because she's at least learning how to eat different textures and sized foods at this point.

I started giving her mixed purees pretty early---like the chicken and veggies purees, or the combo purees like squash and banana. And sometimes I would give a meat puree and a veggie puree.

I also found some organic coconut milk + fruit purees we would give in the morning since our LO can't have dairy.

These days she tends to eat scrambled egg for breakfast, some kind of veggie bites for lunch or chicken and rice, and then random things for dinner--like last night she ate about 20 blueberries, a few puffs, 1/3 of a banana (I cut into bites) and a few bites of spinach sauteed in coconut oil with onion and garlic powder.

R was eating 3 meals by 9 months. Starting mostly all table, but breakfast was oatmeal (not sure the ozs), lunch was 3.5 oz container, and somtimes a 2.5 one, dinner was usually 3.5 ozs or 2 2.5.

She is piggie!

@Pepper: @lawbee11: G's a big fan of yogurt. She gets it for breakfast every morning and hasn't gotten sick of it yet! Haha I guess that isn't a finger food...oh well. :silly:

@lawbee11: Aww poor M. I hope she enjoys the yogurt! C eats that for breakfast almost every morning with some fruit puree mixed in. The fruit puree helps make it a bit smoother, so hopefully she takes to it!

I guess yogurt isn't a finger food, I forgot to mention that. He also loves cottage cheese but that's probably a bit too chunky.

@lawbee11: He would gag and spit up! Eventually he got to the point where as soon as they were in his mouth, he'd just spit them out, but would still gag if he accidentally swallowed any! He's a lot better now, but still doesn't each most table foods.

@Adira: Boo! Did he gag and spit up with the textured foods or does he just not like them?

@Bookish: I'm actually planning to get yogurt at the store this weekend. I'd like to start giving her that for breakfast. Up until now we've been giving her oatmeal with a fruit puree mixed in but I've been pumping more so that we can add BM to the oatmeal and I'm kinda over it! I'd rather just pump what she needs for daycare and not worry about having extra for the oatmeal.

@lawbee11: Oh poor thing. That stinks! Have you tried yogurt or pouches on her yet? Might be a good way to introduce some variety, if that isn't too much texture, plus they have pouches that are really cool flavor combos. We don't let G feed herself the pouches yet because she eats too much; we just spoon it out like a puree.

Sounds like you're doing the same thing we did! And I can't remember off the top of my head, but Xander was probably eating a whole 2.5 oz thing at a meal at that age.

Just to warn you, Xander has a serious texture issue too and still does at 14 months. We're STILL doing purees and only recently have graduated to level 3! He's JUST starting to eat SOME table food, but is still mostly on purees and yogurt!

@Bookish: @Pepper: M has a hypersensitive gag reflex so unfortunately she gags and spits up when she eats things with texture, so we're still on the Level 1 foods :bummed: At least she's eating, though! I've tried mum mums and she gags as soon as it starts dissolving in her mouth (same with avocado and mashed potatoes). I just have to keep trying and hopefully she'll grow out of it soon! I can't wait til she can eat table/finger foods.

@Bookish: Seriously, ditto every word you said!

The amount sounds right, too. I would give him a different container or pouch at every meal when we started purees. He got used to feeding himself with puffs. Now he eats all finger foods with the occasional pouch thrown in there when we're on the go.

@lawbee11: Yay I'm glad she's liking the purees! We started off G on 1 container of purees, and then did puffs + 1 container of puree, and now we are on mostly finger foods. I didn't bother giving different types of purees at each meal, but I'd give like a fruit for breakfast, veggie for lunch, protein & veggie for dinner.

Now that she's on finger foods she gets 2 different finger foods at breakfast & lunch, and 3-4 different types of food for dinner.

LO has gone from being totally uninterested in purees to scarfing them down (*knock on wood* that this continues!) I have no idea how much I should be feeding her at each meal, though. For the past few nights I've been giving her an entire container of the Gerber purees for dinner (which is 2.5 oz). Does that sound about right?

Also, I've been giving her just one food per meal (so last night she had only sweet potatoes). Is that what you did? Or did you mix it up and give some fruit puree and some veggie puree at each meal? I feel like such a newbie even though we've been trying to get her to eat solids for months!
