I would pump once so I could nurse on weekends. You might not get much less milk than pumping three times. While I was pumping once a day I could maintain enough supply to nurse full time on the weekends, even though I was only pumping 3-5 ounces, and I was engorged when I pump weaned.

I would quit pumping. I hated that thing. I fed on demand and mostly SAH. At 10 months I knew we were getting close to the end- started giving her WCM shortly after- which she loved and she was fully weaned a day or two after her first birthday- with very little stress/issue for either of us. I think I remember seeing WCM recommendation in Canada is 9 mo.

I quit at 9.5mo because I was not producing enough. I was down to maybe 5oz per day and had run down my freezer stash. 9.5mo coincided with mid December, and I had planned to take the last two weeks of the year off anyway. So, I nursed on demand while I was home for those two weeks. And then when I went back to work at 10mo we switched to cow's milk during the day when I was at work.

I know that most people wait til a year to start cow's milk, but our pediatrician suggested introducing it at 10mo. Given the issues with my supply, I was happy to give that a try. My son took to it quickly, and this allowed us to avoid using formula.

We still nursed mornings/evenings/weekends after that, and I eventually cut off the last feed (which was in the morning) at 16mo.

I would probably stop if I was getting under 5 ounces. I'm sorry, I know how frustrating it is! That's about where I was at 11 months with my last daughter, but I had a pretty good freezer stash and threw in one extra night session tho make it to a year. With two months to go, I might have been totally overwhelmed!

I pump once a day for 1.5 ounces at this point. (LO is 16 months.) If you asked me if I would still be pumping at this point, I would have said no, but here I am . . .

@T.H.O.U.: do you have a cutoff for when you'll stop? If it's under 5oz? Ever since he quit nursing at night it's hard for me to get a let down pumping so even though I feel full I'm not getting much and now I think my body is adjusting and I'm not making much anymore

I'm pumping twice a day and only getting about 6-8 oz. Some days though its 10-12 oz. She's taking 5 oz bottles so I am still sticking with it because thats at least a full bottles worth.

@MissLace: ok that's how I'm feeling! I'm pumping 20 minutes a time, 3 times a day to basically get one bottle and it's frustrating

when i got down to only getting 1 bottle's worth a day when she needed 4 for daycare, i stopped. It wasn't worth the time to pump 3 times a day for 4-5oz total for me.

@gotkimchi: Uggh yeah that's super annoying. Seeing you're just 2 months away; in your situation I'd probably quit! Esp since it's #2 and as if there aren't enough chaos going on haha!

With DD1 I was forcing myself as long as I got a bottle a day so 4-5 oz. Once I couldn't even get that, I gave up. It was 9 months when I stopped.

My second lo is 10 months and since he stopped eating at night my supply has drastically dropped. Just wondering what would other people would do? I was pumping enough or almost enough for him but now I'm getting approx 6oz a day.
