I mean you could, but then you risk "cooking" the milk or formula on there and its hard to get off. Like someone else said, the oils dont come off that way either. Ours had some dust and cardboard sediment in them from the box and packaging, but Im sure its fine to not. We also have some Playtex Ventaire that have 5 parts without the cap.
