I let the 2nd hole in my earlobes close because they were always getting infected. I had never had issues with my first set but the second set was horrible. By the time I was 21, I had a total of 15 piercings - 5 in each ear and some hidden ones (eek!). I have since retired 5 of the ear piercings (rook and 4 cartilage) and still have 2 in each lobe and my tragus. I also still have all the hidden ones. I know at some point I'll need to "retire" those as well but I don't see a point in doing so before it's necessary? They've all been around so long that I'm just use to them at this point.
