Both of our parents live out of state, so usually we'll travel once for the holidays. Thanksgiving we spend with my family (last year they came to us). Christmas we spent at home and didn't see any family.

We split between my mom's (my dad lives across the country) and hubs' parents. Luckily, they all live within 30 minutes of our house, so it's not much traveling.

Thanksgiving: At our place
Xmas Eve: Hubs' parents
Xmas morning: Hubs' parents
Xmas dinner: with my mom

This will be the first holiday season we have with a LO-- so I'm not sure if I want to drive back and forth and have a bunch of events.

We usually have lunch with my family and dinner with his family. Except for christmas, it's the other way around. My DH's family has ham for christmas and he doesn't like ham, so we have dinner with my family.

I wonder how that will change when we move back home and have our own family.

If we're in the UK, it's just us by ourselves. DH's immediate family are dead and he's not really close with his extended family. If we can we go to the US to be with my family. I have a feeling this year my parents will go apesh*t if we don't come from Christmas... they will want to spoil their grandson :)

We don't really live near any family, so we don't have to go anywhere! In the past few years, we have gone to my parents to celebrate, even if it wasn't ON Christmas that we celebrated. This year, ,they will come to us for Thanksgiving and Christmas since we'll have a LO. His parents are too far away to see for holidays and they aren't a big deal to them anyways.

its been tough, we have three sets of grandparents and trying to figure out who goes where when is difficult. It's made more difficult b/c both I and my husband have sisters or brothers with kids who come in from out of town. So it's somewhat of a logistical hurdle. We try to do three celebrations for each Thanksgiving and Christmas. "try" being the key word. I don't enjoy holidays for this reason - which kind of sucks.

@artbee: It's pretty hectic, but it's the only way we'd get to celebrate with all of our family. We asked if any side would be willing to move to another day, but, understandably, everyone wants to stick to their own tradition. Then we thought about alternating between families every year so we wouldn't rush so much, but that just made us sad. This will be our first year with a LO, so we'll find out if we need to change something.

We alternate holidays with my family and Hubs family. Although Hubs parents are divorced, so it can be a little complicated.

This year: Thanksgiving with my parents, Christmas with his
Next year: Thanksgiving with his parents, Christmas with mine

We'll still get together for Christmas with both sets of families, but only one will get the evening before and the the whole day. Then we'll do Christmas gifts with the other family some other time.

@artbee: sometimes we get together with my SIL/BIL for xmas but not always. SIL is jewish so sometimes she wants to celebrate and sometimes not. depends on her mood that particular year. other than that....no, can't think of anything. the 3 of us did go out to eat for thanksgiving. it was awful. i think starting this year i will cook even if it is just the 3 of us.

Our families still celebrate with each side, so that's 4 Christmas's, plus 2 for the immediate families. So an example:

Sunday before Christmas : Mom Side X-Mas (huge get together, my grandma and all her siblings plus all their kids, ect)

Christmas Eve Day: DH's immediate family for lunch and gift opening
Christmas Eve Night: Dinner at my parents with siblings and gift opening. Stay night.

Christmas Day Day: Dad's side Christmas with his siblings and all the cousins.
DH's Dad Side is at the same time, we usually skip this because we spend Thanksgiving exclusely with them for lunch.
Christmas Night: DH's mom's side family, huge she has 8 siblings, and all their kids. We usually stick around until 8-9 then off to bed!

It's hectic, and I'm sure it will be even more so with a little one this year...a very little one! We will see if adjustments are made due to stress.

Our holidays are horrible and wonderful at the same time. Horrible because there are so many. Wonderful because we love spending time with our families. Our Christmas schedule always looks like this:

24th
6-9:30pm with DH's cousins for Christmas Eve fun
10-past midnight at my parent's house for Christmas Eve gift opening

25th:
morning: FIL's side
afternoon: MIL's side
evening: my side

26th:
friends get togethers

When the movie Four Christmases came out we just laughed. They got nothing on us.

For the past few years everyone's been coming here. It's been awesome because it's so much easier than traveling. Plus when there's plenty of people to keep Wagon Jr. busy it frees me up to cook my one big meal of the year!

My parents and in-laws live 20 minutes from us (and they live 10 minutes from each other) yet we still do separate holiday dinners. SOMETIMES we'll do just one all together but that's a lot of people and cooking. I love double the dinners, too, though. :)

We usually do holidays at my parent's house and then my husband's parents. I love having two holiday meals!

We're only getting one for passover though this year because we couldn't find a time that was good for everyone due to working schedules, bed times, and my sils family does Easter. I'm sad, I'm going to miss my mom's chicken soup and briskest!
