He doesn't like the potty chair so we rarely use that one. But we'll probably use it when we travel or something. I would recommend getting one for each floor if you can! There were times when my son was just about to pee and I had to RUN downstairs to grab the potty. The potty chair is currently in DS's room, but when DD was potty training, we kept it in the living room at first, and then in her bathroom on the second floor. One of the seat covers also converts into a portable potty. We keep one seat cover and the standalone on the first floor. The second seat cover upstairs.
