Hahah

Right now I'm trying to sell all mine! We went through a lot but they were a life saver at each stage.

- Arms Up swaddle size small - Great for NB with reflux that doesn't want arms tied down.
- Arms Up Swaddle Medium - She needed the next size up.
- Merlin Sleep Suit 6-9m size - We didn't love this. But I had bought before she was born.
- Zipadee Zip - Small - She started rolling so it was an easy transition from the arms up to this.
- Zipadee Zip - Medium - still using currently at 7m .

Not sure what is next for us. Maybe a thicker sleep sack? Maybe another zippy?

@snowjewelz: Babies be crazy.

In actuality, it was an issue of his arms being swaddled. Moreover, he tends to run really hot at night and the Halo sleepsacks just were too thick. He would wake up soaking wet, which made this crazy FTM scared he was at risk of SIDs. He did better with a light A&A blanket swaddled with his arms out. We transitioned to the Merlin suit at 9 weeks and it changed our life. We realized he wasn't sleeping great because he kept startling. I'm now a firm believer that you can have all the supplies in the world and still not have exactly what you need. As long as you know where the nearest BRU (or any baby store) is and have Amazon Prime, you will be good :silly:

We never used swaddles, but always had 2 sleep sacks of each size/season. When he was a newborn I could have done with more than 2 because of all the spitting up, but nowadays 2 is plenty.

We have tons of swaddles (and by tons I mean maybe 8). They are just swaddle blankets (not the sacks) and we use them for everything. I would highly recommend buying swaddle blankets - it's not that hard to swaddle with the blanket.

My son hated being swaddled and similar to @oliviaoblivia: we have tons of unused swaddles that we've just given to friends. He ended up being a Merlin Magic Sleep Suit type of guy, which we could have never known.

@oliviaoblivia: Same here. LO hated the swaddles and would konk out immediately once just swaddled with a A&A blanket.

As for how many, we always had 2-3 of the size we were using. Now that's walking, there's no way I'll be able to get him in one this winter.

We have a ton.... And had a swaddle and sleep sack hating baby. We probably have $400 in washed yet unused sleep things. Hopefully #2 likes them.

So my advice is buy a few. Don't wash them. Meet your baby. Then get more of what works.

Usually 2 in whichever one was season appropriate. When he was born (in January) I had 2 fleece (halo sleepsacks, which I much preferred, had some other ones we tried and didn't use), summer I had 2 cotton in the next size up. Now I have one of cotton, one of fleece but it looks like he'll be in this size for awhile so I will probably be getting another fleece one!

@Apples4Teacher: you can swaddle their arms! You put the crotch buckle through the hole then lay the arm flaps under the arm straps then put the kid in. You stick the legs in the sack, buckle them in, then wrap their arms. It doesn't get quite as nice and snug but usually it's enough for a stroller situation to calm them down and help them drift off.

@gingerbebe: oh my gosh-I didn't know that's what the slit was for!! My DH would always ask me and I never knew! But you still can't strap in their arms, right?

With that said, we were gifted a ton! I think 6 SwaddleMes and one Halo. We used the Halo (and bought another quickly!) when he was first born bc the weight for the Halo started at 6 lbs, whereas the SwaddleMe starts at 7 lbs. We have them all over the house! But now he's starting to break out of them (I think he's getting too big for them even though he's 12 lbs and they are supposed to go to 14 I believe) so I just went and bought the only other one available...the Ergobaby Swaddle...crossing my fingers!!

I have about 5 SwaddleMe's. I like to have several on hand. Sometimes we'll go through 2 a day and I do laundry every other day, so I like to have lots of backups.
I echo the sentiment that the warm ones may not be as necessary. If he's in a fleece sleeper and uses a regular SwaddleMe, that's plenty warm. I have one fleece swaddle just in case but haven't used it yet. Maybe when it gets colder.

We have 4 A&A blankets, plus 5 SwaddleMe's that we got as gifts, which I realize is a bit much, but I think they are different sizes. We started with the muslin blankets when he was little, but switched to the SwaddleMe's when he got bigger because it was easier for DH to handle and because they break out of the blankets unless you swaddle them just right. I actually really love the SwaddleMe because its a no-brainer construction with velcro straps and it allows for arms out or legs out swaddling.

I would say its nice to have at least 2 swaddles in rotation. LO will have a pee accident or diaper blowout in the MOTN and then its annoying if you only have the 1. We keep 2 in our bedroom, 1 in the living room for pack n' play naps, and I even keep one in the diaper bag because sometimes if he's super fussy, I swaddle him into his stroller, which is possible with the SwaddleMe's because they have a slit in the butt that can allow a buckle to be slipped through their legs.

I don't know about your kids, but mine actually sweats easily. So between a light cotton sleeper and the SwaddleMe, which is like a jersey-cotton fabric, he's pretty warm in there and sometimes wakes up sweaty. Depending on your climate, it may just be easier to put the baby in a fleece sleeper and use the same swaddle.

Just two swaddles & two sleep sacks. I didn't really need to double the sleep sacks because by then we didn't have much spit up & no MOTN diaper changes but having 2 swaddles was so helpful because she loved to pee mid change or I would be so so tired that more than once I forgot to close one side of the diaper lol
