I tell my patients' families, "Under 1, food is just for fun." We offered (using baby led weaning) every day, but she didn't really take to food until age 1.

There were a few veggies and fruits that my LO didn't like at first. But we kept reintroducing them and eventually he started liking some of them. I would say to keep trying every few weeks or so. Baby's taste buds change so much and something they like/dislike today, they may like/dislike tomorrow. I think it's important to continue reintroducing the foods so that they get accustomed to different tastes and textures. I've also heard from alot of mommies that sometimes it's the texture, not the taste necessarily, that the baby's don't like. This was totally true for us in regards to bananas. He hated the texture of smashed bananas. So we tried feeding it to him in tiny cubes and he liked it.

@BabyLove: i also mixed veg with baby pasta or brown rice. you can try that if your LO doesn't like cereal. for fruit, i mixed with oatmeal.

@andrea- I should try edamame! I didn't even think of it but it's a great idea.

@coffee bean- no, lol, I actualy haven't tried it. But I know it's sweet so that does make sense.

@rubies- I hadn't thought about mixing a veggie/fruit with cereal. Did you start that after she got used to the cereal? Because LO still isn't crazy about cereal so I'm not sure if mixing will help but I'd like to try it.

If I mix the veggies/fruit with breast milk, will that possibly help?

@maysprout- another good idea, avocado!

Her tastes changed, she was reluctant with avocado at first and then a month later she loved it. We started with fruit first and havent had problems with her not eating veggies.

The very first thing I ever gave LO was banana. Then pears (she LOVES)...THEN cereal and butternut squash. Sometimes I'll mix pears with her cereal (not completely mix, just swirl so it's almost marbled) and she likes it together. In what I've read, and like Mrs. Bee said, it doesn't matter what you start with. I think the idea that LO will develop a preference for sweet is up for debate.

I worried about fruits for the same reason, but I have read that all breastfed babies have a sweet preference anyway, which makes sense - have you tasted the stuff?

@mrs.bee- I was worried to introduce fruit for that reason. I thought she'd be like why would I eat green beans when I can have bananas? But if that's not accurate, maybe I will try it.

Has anyone else started with fruit and found it easy to still introduce veggies? How did you do it?

charlie eats a lot of things now that he didn't like at first, and he was really picky until he was 18 months or so. he still does not like eating, but when he does eat there is a pretty wide range of foods he will eat.

how bout trying something sweet like bananas? i've read that it actually doesn't matter what you introduce first (veggies or fruits)... they won't develop a sweet tooth if you introduce sweets first.

@chopsuey119- she'll be 6 months old on Thursday. Our ped told us to incorporate solids 2 weeks before she turned 6 months. So we have been. I'm not stressed, I just want to make sure I'm not screwing up the process! Haha.

@artbee- that give makes sense. She might just be trying to figure out what she's supposed to be doing with this strange stuff in her mouth. I'll keep trying. And see what happens!

For us, I think LO didn't not like the food, she just didn't understand how to eat it. So she would spit it out and then make a face. It took about a week for her to finally keep the food in her tummy. She's still pretty inconsistent about it, sometimes she'll eat the whole thing of sweet potatoes and sometimes she doesn't want one bite. I just go with the flow, let her eat what she wants and if she doesn't want it, no big deal, we try again the next day. Food isn't for nutrition now, they have formula and breastmilk for that, so it really doesn't matter if she doesn't eat solids now.

Just be consistent and dont force your Lo to eat. My 10.5 month old eats 3x a day but only has about 5-10 bites of food. She gets all the nutrients she needs from breasmilk so I'm not stressing. How old is your Lo?

We've started solids. So far, LO isn't feelin' it. We started with cereal. First rice, then grain. She kinda didn't mind it but wasn't much enthused. Then we tried squash. She basically projectile spit it out. And gave me a look like WTF was that? And she refused to even look at me let alone open her mouth again. I kept trying a little bit each day for like, 4 days- nope. She continues to gag herself to avoid eating it! Lol. I moved on the green beans (I know, much less likelihood that she'd eat that if she hates squash... same result- spewing of veggies)

How many times do you try a veggie before it's obvious that they're just not going to like it? I'm going to make peas, sweet potato and carrots this week to introduce then one at a time.

Any suggestions on how to make solids work? Mama can't nurse for life....
