I have called a few times. Once when DS had a huge hard lump after 4 month vaccines, once after he had a minor allergic reaction to amoxicillin, and twice after really high fevers (103 and 104). I usually call my stepmom first since she is a nurse and has three kids, so she let's me know if it is worth called the Dr. Our pediatrician office has 3 drs and 2 others who they share after hours on call shifts with.

I called after hours once when LO was 2 weeks old and had blood in her spit up. Our pediatrician wasn't who I spoke to, though. Her practice is part of the city's childrens hospital system, and all of the practices in the system share an after hours call line staffed by nurse practitioners, so I didn't feel bad about calling all.

Thankfully never yet! I called my ob after hours because I was bleeding and couldn't tell if it was coming from my tushy or who ha. It ended up being hemorrhoids. I was so embarrassed!

I called our pediatrician after hours once when my LO was 3 months old and pooped super super dark poop! I thought it was blood! I called the after hours line at 11pm and she called me back 30 minutes later. She just told me it's probably old poop because LO wasn't complaining or fussing or anything. And she said she would make time to see him the next morning. I felt bad for calling her at 11pm about "old poop" but I was freaking out.

Anyone else call their ped after hours?
