@Cherrybee: Ten accidents in a day seems like a lot! I don't think LO even pees 10 times a day total. I'm counting it up and typically she goes pee 6-7 times a day and poops once, though that doesn't count the fact that she often will pee her nap time pull-up.

The only time LO peed that much was early potty training when I feel like she wasn't emptying all the way, so she was peeing every 30 minutes.

When she has accidents do you try to get her to finish on the potty and get it all out? I wonder if on accident days she's holding it and letting a little out at a time which is making it worse.

We had a lot of accidents at first. I realized that my son needed to be reminded to go, so we used intervals. I would specifically interrupt him when he was in the middle of playing because that was the time when I needed him to recognize that it was okay to leave his stuff and take a break.

@oliviaoblivia: Wow! We get ten a day some days. :bummed: Then, other days, she's dry all day.

We've only had a handful since she trained at 2.5 years. A short regression when she started school. But overall fewer than ten pee accidents and one poo accident when she had a stomach bug.

She will be 4 in June and still has an accident about once a month. Always just pee and she almost makes it to the potty.

We didn't have any accidents but I think it may be because we waited until she was older (over 3 years old). We tried a couple times when she was younger (around age 2) and it was a mess. Once we waited until she totally initiated it , it was so easy - she pretty much trained herself in 2 days!

@Kemma: She definitely can recognise the urge and she's capable of taking herself off and doing it all by herself, up until the wiping and pulling up pants bit, when she wants to.

I think perhaps the motivation has worn off. I need to rethink my strategy.

We potty trained about 6 months ago. I would say after the first month, LO has had only occasional accidents - maybe once per week?

After about a week of potty training, she was not having accidents very often at all, but during the first month or so we definitely had "off days." For us, going commando or bare bottomed helped, and actually avoiding over prompting helped too.

Good luck!

We trained about two months ago. DD literally had no accidents for the first seven weeks (!!!). She began waking up dry through naps and overnight within a few days of being day training. It felt like some sort of fluke, but I was pretty excited.

However, earlier this last week, we had a handful of (pee) accidents. She'd be so invested in playing, then hop up with a shocked face and not make it to the bathroom, in time. I've had to really increase my reinforcement for staying dry, and model what it looks like to remember to take bathroom breaks. I think being in undies and using the potty have lost their novelty, especially since she is no longer getting treats for successes. We've gotten back on track, and she's been doing really well, again. Accidents really bum her out, so she's been more conscious of "paying attention to my tummy" so she doesn't "pee pee all over the floor."

In the end, I figure we'll continue to have "off" weeks here and there. Seems to be the norm, especially in regards to transitions, illness, etc.

I'd reintroduce or restructure a reinforcement system to keep your DD motivated, and just model what it looks like when you're really enjoying something, but still listening to your body and taking those potty breaks. Good luck; she'll get there!

I'll be honest and say that it took A the best part of a year until I could definitely say that she was toilet trained. She went in to undies in January 2015 and did really well but toileting was her point of control so when our wee fella was born in April that was what flew out the window! We both knew that she could do it but she hated being reminded and she even went back into nappies for a short spell - it just wasn't a battle I was prepared to fight!

FWIW (and this is just my experience and opinion) if you're still doing a lot of prompting and having to frequently remind a child to go to the toilet then they're not really trained and they'll continue to have accidents until they can recognise the urge and independently take themselves.

Hang in there, friend!

It's been two months and a couple weeks for us... DS has just in the last week or two started having a few days in a row with no accidents. (Although I've been working on him learning to initiate so not reminding him as often). Most days he has one accident, and about once a week he has a day with tons of accidents.

One thing that helped was finding something to continue to motivate him after the initial 'fun' wore off.

ETA- the days he has the most accidents are usually when there is something exciting going on or he is overtired.

We used the 3 day method, and by the 2nd day she stopped having accidents every day. But that method may have different results than other methods (meaning some methods are supposed to be more gradual). she did have accidents about 1-2 times per week until about 4 months into it? Then very rarely has one now. I wonder if your daughter needs some extra motivation to stay dry? Dd was having trouble at school so they did a sticker chart. We did sticker for pee first, then once she started getting that we did stickers when she stayed dry. That helped a lot!

I'm just wondering.

It was E who decided she wanted to potty train and, almost immediately, she started having days where she was dry all day (poop is a different matter). But then, other days, she has accident after accident. She is able to recognise when she needs to go and ask in time.... but she doesn't always do it. We do prompt her regularly but she often refuses to try (and then wets minutes later). It doesn't seem to matter if she's bare bottomed or wearing clothes.

We've been doing this for 6 weeks now. Am I doing something wrong? Or is this totally normal?
