@Andrea: I'm very post-call so kind of loopy and silly. Too bad I have meetings all morning!

@Mrs. Cowgirl: seems to be normal based on everyone's responses? YES. I pick her up at 3 pm and it's horrible. She'll be a crabby patty for about 1.5 hours or so and then get another wind to last us until bedtime!

@Andrea: yep, i'm with ya...CB is crabbiest around 3-5pm and if we can push through that and survive, it's a good night ;)

@Mrs. Cowgirl: thanks for starting this thread! I don't feel so alone now. It's like something snapped once she turned 3. I know she is sleep deprived, but won't sleep before 7 and refuses to nap (but it's been that way for a while). We'll get some good days when she sleeps almost 12 hours at night but I'd say it hovers more around 11 hours. She is very crabby in the afternoons when I pick her up from school so it's a huge struggle for me until bedtime. Her crabbiness rubs off on the baby, too.

DD is almost 5 and now that she dropped the nap, she sleeps 11 hr. I know it's not enough bc she frequently falls asleep in car coming home from day care (5 min drive!). No matter what time she falls asleep at night, she always wakes up same time! What can you do... Thought about moving bedtime up earlier but not sure that is a great idea for the future with homework and stuff to consider.

It doesn't matter if my 4-year-old naps or doesn't or if we put him to bed at 8 or later, the boy gets up every single morning between 5-6 AM, waking the 2-year-old in the process. I'm at my wit's end. He only naps maybe twice a week, on days where he's having meltdowns and is obviously not coping. In the survey I said 10 hours or less (8 PM sharp is an early bedtime and he's always up before 6 AM), but with naps he's probably at around 12 hours.

@Mrs. Jacks; Ellie seemed to need less sleep as well. She stopped napping right before age three and would sleep 7pm-6am. Now she sleeps from about 8/8:30pm-6am.

We cut Ellie's nap when she started into the pattern @Mrs. Cowgirl described. She was up until 11pm/12am if she did nap, and if she didn't she crashed pretty early.

DD is doing about 11 hours a day right, but I really feel like she would benefit from an extra couple hours. Right now she goes to sleep around 8 at night and is up around 6 with a 1 hour nap in the afternoon. She gets very cranky and mischevious around naptime and then again at bedtime but she just won't sleep! She'll literally be yawning and barely keeping her eyes open one minute and up jumping on her bed the next. :) Ah, kids!

My LO is almost 3, but he's never gone to sleep for the night early. I've tried. He just likes to go down around 9-10p. He rises around 6-7. He gets somewhere between 11-12 hours of sleep daily.

I have noticed that he's on a 48-72 hour cycle with naps. Every 2d or 3d day he takes a marathon nap. He's basically always done that.

I think you and I may have talked about this, but Lala sleeps 9 hours a night and 1 hour in the daytime (if I'm lucky). Her teachers say she doesn't seem tired during the day, but in the evenings she can get pretty crabby. BUT, no mater what I do, whether we start bedtime at 7 or 9, she always falls asleep at 10 pm. What's a mama to do? In talking to sleep experts and other pediatricians, they all just think that her set point is lower than most toddlers. Maybe all toddlers get crabby in the evening?

Including nap (if your LO still naps), how many total hours does your preschooler (3+ years?), sleep?

Lil' CB is dropping to around 11ish hours and I feel like it's really not enough! He goes down around 7 and wakes up somewhere between 6-6:30 am. But if he naps, he doesn't fall asleep until 10:00 or so and is up every day at or before 6:30, so he actually sleeps less when he naps! Gah! Will sleep every be easy to figure out?!
