I'm only having two or three... I think they only do more if there is some kind of problem.

I've had a lot this time around! I've gone in to see the OBGYN because of pain and they sent me for an ultrasound every time. Sometimes to check my cervix and sometimes to check for kidney stones. I'll also be sent for a few more very late (around 36 weeks, I think?) to check the baby's growth and determine if/when we should induce or schedule a c-section due to my gestational diabetes.

Last pregnancy I had four: 8 weeks, 20 weeks, 32 weeks and one after that/before delivery (obviously!) I'm following that same pattern so far with this baby. The middle two were done by a specialist and the first and last at my normal OB's office.

I am no expert but I believe you should wait for the 20 week one. That is when they can really see a lot of things well. 16 weeks may not be a good use of time/money.

I have had 3 so far and there are no plans to have anymore. NT scan, anatomy scan, and then one last week to make sure my placenta was no longer in the way. I would have only had two if not for the placenta issue.

I believe 2 to 3 is normal.
1. Confirm pregnancy
2. Prenatal Testing
3. Anatomy Screen

I've had a lot more because I had some odd blood work results and also because our LO is in the 89th percentile for height and weight.

I had 4.

- 11 weeks (this was the first time I could get in since I had just moved to a new city)
- 13 weeks (moved from an OB/GYN practice to a midwife practice so I got another one :))
- 16 weeks (they thought they saw a hernia in the umbilical cord so this one was to check it...no hernia! They also just treated this one like an anatomy scan since we were in there)
- 20 weeks (regular anatomy scan)

We could have found out the sex at 16 weeks and 20 weeks, but we were Team Green so we looked away. :)

If your pregnancy isn't high risk then you normally only get three. One between 6 - 8 weeks, one between 11-12 weeks and then another around 19 or 20 weeks.

Only three unless something comes up - and that's more than they usually give. I had one at 6 weeks for dating as I have long, irregular cycles, then we opted for the 12 week NT scan (completely optional - would not have been offered a scan if we chose not to do the testing), and then the 20 weeks anomaly scan.

I'm currently 36 weeks and don't anticipate having any more unless something goes wrong.

I had a subchorionic hemorrhage so I got a few extras, and I also had a couple of unexplained spotting episodes that landed me in the ER...I'm 11w4d and I've had 7 ultrasounds already, but I think if I hadn't had any issues, my OB's office would have only done 1 by now.

This Friday is my NT scan and that will be my 8th at 12weeks. Yeah, that's ridiculous. I know:)

My Dr. has one in office so she does an ultrasound at every visit to confirm position and heartbeat but here are the major ones we had: 8 weeks (dating), 12 weeks (NT Scan), 17 weeks (anatomy scan), 28 weeks (3rd tri scan), 36 weeks (growth scan). It really depends on your Dr and your insurance as most insurance will only cover 2-3 ultrasounds a pregnancy (dating ultrasound, anatomy scan, 3rd trimester scan).

Oh gosh let’s see… I had one at 5w3d due to prior MCs, one at 7w3d for heartbeat, one at 10 weeks just because my doctor doesn’t underestimate my nerves, NT scan at 12 weeks, U/S at regular OB appt at 14 weeks, U/S at regular OB appt last week at 18 weeks and I have my actual anatomy scan with the perinatologist today. So this will be #7. I definitely wouldn’t have had a few of them if I hadn’t had MC issues in the past but I do think that my OB is pretty liberal about them. He has a machine in office and doesn’t mind just “taking a peek.”

So far we've had 4--a transvaginal one at 8 weeks, one at 12 weeks because the doc had a hard time finding the heart beat (everything was ok), NT scan at 13 weeks, and anatomy scan at 20 weeks. We're doing an elective 4D scan at 28 weeks, and the doc asked us to go for an u/s to check the kidneys at 32 weeks (they were measuring on the higher side of normal). Unless something else comes up, we'll have 6 total including the elective 4D.

I had 6 total but 2 was the norm for our midwife & hospital. The first was at 12 weeks (transvaginally). I had an anatomy scan at 18 weeks and then went back for a second scan at 20 weeks because the tech couldn't get all of the scans at the first one. I had another around 25 weeks or so to check on baby because of a fall. I also had 2 elective 3D ultrasounds.

I don't think they will do an extra ultrasound just because you ask for it. Most providers will only do so if there is cause for concern.

I also had higher level/better quality ultrasounds at 12 weeks (for NT scan), at 16 weeks (for part I of anatomy scan), and will have another at 20 weeks (for part 2 of anatomy scan).
The only others are if something is wrong. I had a lot in the beginning for some bleeding, and one in the end because lo measured big.

Lemme see . . .6 so far: (1) at 8 weeks to confirm heartbeat; (2) at 12 weeks for the NT scan; (3) at 16 weeks--but this was an elective u/s-- to determine sex; (4) at 16.5 weeks for an amnio (I planned the elective scan before I was scheduled for an amnio, so I just kept the elective appointment - more pictures!); (5) at 20 weeks for anatomy scan; and (6) at 22 weeks during pre-term contractions.

After my 20 week anatomy scan, my OB told me that they would not plan any additional u/s. I plan to do another elective u/s between 26- 30 weeks (I am 25 weeks this week).

I have had 3, but normally my office only does 1 unless they suspect issues. My first one was because they thought I might be further along than they orginially guessed, so they wanted to know for sure. (9 weeks) I was in a car accident at 18 weeks so the hosptial did one to make sure baby was okay. And then I had my A/S at 20 weeks. I don't suspect I'll be getting another one unless something comes up.
