2-3x/night. That's where we were at 6 months. At 7.5months, we're at 1-2/night.

@banana: It was... then again I'm so used to sleeping just a few hours at a time that I couldn't go right back to sleep when she woke up at 4:30! lol.

@runsyellowlites: 8 hours? That's heavenly! I guess my son spoiled me. He used to sleep 10 hours STRAIGHT at 6 months.

@banana: She just recently started not waking at her usual 10, like literally just this week so she's sleeping from about 8:30 to 1ish so about 5 hours. There have been a few nights where she'll wake around 10:30 and then sleep till 4 so that's more like 5 1/2 hours. And one night last week she slept EIGHT HOURS before waking up.... hasn't happened again though. lol

@Rubies: Her face rash bothers her like crazy so I'm hoping that once we resolve this horrible rash, she'll have better nights. UGH!!!

@runsyellowlites: Thanks the biological explanation! I'll try to remember that when I'm up in the middle of the night tonight. :) What's the longest stretch of sleep your LO has right now?

@banana: I think she's teething (that's what her pediatrician said and she's been drooling nonstop for the past 2 months), but no signs of any teeth yet. i miss my sleep!

@banana: P wakes 2-5 times a night at 9.5 months. Atleast 1 time before we go to bed and another after going to bed when she comes into our bed & we dreamfeed/nurse at will the rest of the night. Before we started co-bedding I was up alot more... maybe 4-6 times after we went to bed at 1?

From a biological standpoint, more prolactin triggers are laid at night with night nursing than during the day time nursing session so it makes sense for baby to continue waking needing to nurse well into the first year. Of course some babies are just sleepers and that wouldn't be true for them, but generally wakings are totally normal.

Mine's not quite 6 months yet (a week and a half shy), but the past few days he's slept in 9-10 hour stretches before waking up at the butt-crack of dawn to nurse. We've been sleep-training, though, and have moved him to his own crib. When he was sleeping in our room (our bed or the PnP) he was up every 3 hours, minimum.

@HabesBabe: we're dealing with basically the same exact thing as you are! arg!!! is your LO teething? My DD is massively teething so I'm thinking this might be affecting her sleep? I can only hope it's a short phase!!

I would kill to have my son only wake 2-3 times at 6 months!

We are lucky to get a two hour stretch out of DS these days...he's really uncomfortable from teething. He still eats 3-4 bottles a night too (the other night he crushed like 25 oz overnight...growth spurt!). Even when he's in good shape, he still wakes 3 times to eat over 11-12 hrs. He just has a sensitive personality.

DD just started working on sttn. She's done it three times over the last week or so. If not she usually only wakes at 9 pm or 4 am, occasionally both. She's always been more independent than her brother and started doing way better once we separated them at night.

@banana: this is exactly what we are going through. LO is 6 1/2 months old, and for the past 3 weeks, she has been waking up 3-4x/night. she was STTN from 6 weeks until that point!

she goes down between 7-8p and wakes up to comfort nurse (less than 5 mins each time) at:
10p
1a
4a
6-7a
and then for the day at 8a.

I think the only thing that is normal is that there is no normal. My DD was STTN at 6 months, my nephew is 7 weeks older than her and he still wakes up at 13 months at least once per night. FWIW DD is EBF and Nephew is EFF. Every baby is different.

My DD has been having some terrible night sleep lately. She sleeps from 8-8:30 but wakes up 2-3 times every night. I BFeed her and she goes down really easily. But then she's up again 2-3 hours later. Her longest stretch is maybe 3-4 hrs.

Is this normal? My son was a great sleeper at this age (STTN!) so maybe I've been spoiled?
