We shake our heads though because he has words like lemonade, baseball and thank you. We hear those more often than the typical first words like mama, dada or ball. In addition, there wasn't a lot of babbling either. He qualified at 14 months for early intervention in speech. He has improved to three signs and two words. She hit a huge explosion around 15 months. She says a lot more now (22 mo) and her language explosion was just after 18 mo. At 12 months she had only 2 words (Daddy and Kitty) but they came fast after that. At 15 months she had about a dozen. At 16 months I stopped keeping track of the individual words but off the top of my head I just thought of 20 but I'm guessing I'm missing some - so maybe 30. She combines a couple - "bye bye kitty" for example. However she's chattier than the average baby her age. She repeats a ton, even short sentences. But the words she has on her own aren't a lot and some are very hard to understand. Like you, her older sister was already saying a few sentences at this time and it's hard not to compare. But I feel okay with where she's at as well.
