DS said approx 100 words by 18m and was stringing them together. At 2 he's talking in 3-4 word sentences. She has about 20 words now but some she has only said a few times and I include animal sounds. Our ped looked for around 20 at our 18 month appt. We actually barely made the cut, but my daughter had a hearing loss prior to getting tubes because she always had ear infections, so they told me she would probably have a speech explosion in the coming months and she definitely did... At around 19-20 months, her language really took off! She started saying occasional sentences and repeating everything we said. Out of the blue she started saying stuff like "Yeah I can." Or "See you later." LO had around 10 words at her 1 year checkup and 40ish at her 15 month...also our doc says animal noises count (if she can tell you what a dog says and it isn't just random noise). They can definitely be mispronounced.
