@Honeybee: I think it's because of the comparison that we're trying so hard to avoid. This is a lot different than 50-100 words and 30 signs, in my opinion :)

@tequiero21: Yep, i'm Korean but we're not doing a traditional dohl. Our families are a 4 hour plane ride away! I think i'll still do a dohljabi though, just because it's fun to do. :) I stopped stressing out once she started saying "baba" because she now babbles all the time. Though i find it funny because she cries "umma" when she's stressed. hahaa

wow so impressive everyone! DS just turned 1 and didn't really have any words at all. he just learned to say bye bye but this was after he turned one. he does babble a lot but we don't count those at all. our doc said it was okay, and that he would want to hear a few words by his 1.5 year appointment. :)

She only says baba (daddy in Chinese) and umma (mommy in Korean). I'm trying hard to just go with it and not stress about how many words she knows! She has 2 more weeks to go until she turns 1!

@tequiero21: I agree! It's pretty crazy how fast they can absorb the things we say (and I really have to be careful these days as she's become a parrot as of late). Do you speak mostly Korean to your LO or a mix of Korean and English? When DD was an infant I thought I'd only speak English but then later read that English is learned quickly once the attend daycare or similar, so I switched and now converse with her solely in Cantonese. I do speak to DH in English so she hears us and has picked up some random words.

@BananaPancakes: I feel the same. I could probably interpret more "words", but I only count fully articulated ones as actual words.
@Sammyfab: We have a thing for ducks, so we have lots around the house so quacking is no real surprise. It's so funny to hear him answer that dogs, horses, Mommy, Daddy, etc. all say quack. :) @Honeybee: too cute! Though sometimes it can sound a bit like he's saying cock over and over :/

He is almost 14 months and can say about 20 words. Hi, bye, mama, dada, baby, hot, banana, cheese, keys, bottle, ball, sock (gock), uh-oh, clock, puff (bop), kitty, night-night (ny-ny), boom, and nummy-nummy for eating/food. Plus he can do animal noises (elephant, dog) and vroom-vroom for trucks and things like that.

Our pediatrician said she wanted LO to be saying 3 words by age 1, and I don't think he was there yet- maybe had one word, MAYBE two. He caught up quick, and now at age 2 he talks in mostly full sentences all the time about all kinds of stuff.

Cracker, waffle, yogurt, sister, mama, dada, quack, ball, bear

I think that is it. However, this is not very audible to other people, we have gotten use to hearing words in sounds because of our daughter. I'm much more fluent in "baby" after having gone through it once hahaha. He is 13 months old too, that month makes a difference!

I honestly don't know if he's really saying anything. There's lots of things it sounds like he's saying, but I don't know if he knows whats actually coming out of his mouth or if it actually means anything. Until he looks at me and says mama clear as day, I'm not counting it.

@MegWag: we have tons of cow toys so my LO knows how to moo!

He also says the 'uh' part of 'uh oh,' calls every stuffed animal a 'bah' and says 'bah wah' whenever he sees a dog. I'm a very literal person and I don't interpret word approximations well so I wouldn't say any of those are actual words (although they may be considered words by others).

He signs more, all done, help, lights on/off, and I want.
