Baby isn’t here yet, but we’ve narrowed it down to 2 centers, so I’ll answer for both of those:

1) Center 1: $205/wk (so $820-$1025/month), center 2: $292/wk (so $1168-$1460/month).
2) Learning centers, fully accredited by the NAAYC and state licensing boards.
3) Some days she won't have to go full time; but we’ll still have to pay for full time.
4) Some days my husband will be able to get her early (half day), but we have to pay for full day care
5) Infant care, with a 7:2 infant to teacher ratio
6) Live in Portland, Maine (smallish city).

2) What type of child care is it? In home day care, center-based, nanny, au pair, family or friend takes care? Live in Nanny
3) How days a week is your child in child care for? Seven
4) Is this all day or half day? It's tricky. I don't work so I'm home too but she is on from 6am til noon then has time to do her own stuff and comes back at 3pm, has dinner with us then is 'off the clock' at 8pm when my son goes to sleep. Weekends are just a free for all depending on our plans.
5) Is this for infant, toddler care? Or for older kids? My son is 3 and I am pregnant with my daughter.
6) Where do you live? Or area if you don't want to get too specific. City? suburbs? rural area? UES of NYC

1) How much do you pay in child care costs per month?
Per month, 5 days/week is $1,800, 3 days/week is $1,200, 2 days/week is $800 for age 3+. It's a pretty good deal for where we live. They also provide breakfast, lunch, and an afternoon snack. Their meals are focused around nutrition and lots of variety, and are many times comprised of organic foods. You can send your child with his/her own food, but this option is built in the tuition.

2) What type of child care is it? In home day care, center-based, nanny, au pair, family or friend takes care?
The center is considered a daycare for infants, nursery school for ages 1-2 and preschool for ages 3-4.

3) How days a week is your child in child care for?
When I was working, she went 5 days a week. I recently quit to be a SAHM and she goes 3 days a week now.

4) Is this all day or half day?
All day. Drop-off can occur as early as 8am, but she usually goes around 10am before Circle Time. I pick her up around 5:30 - 6pm.

5) Is this for infant, toddler care? Or for older kids?
The tuition I posted above is for 3-4 yo preschoolers. They take infants as young as 3 months, and the rates are much higher.

6) Where do you live? Or area if you don't want to get too specific. City? suburbs? rural area?
New York, NY

2) What type of child care is it? In home day care, center-based, nanny, au pair, family or friend takes care?: Center
3) How days a week is your child in child care for?: 5
4) Is this all day or half day?: All day
5) Is this for infant, toddler care? Or for older kids?: Toddler
6) Where do you live? Or area if you don't want to get too specific. City? suburbs? rural area?: "Town". We live in Montana

I don't have any kids yet but these costs are ridiculous. I don't even make per month what a lot of you pay in day care. When I read posts like this it scares the crap out of me for when I do have a baby.

I remember when my little sister and I were in day care that my mom paid 100 dollars a week for each of us. Daycare costs must have rose a HUGE amount.

Keep these coming! I'm in Boston and full-time infant day care is $2,000 a month. We're exploring day care and in home nanny options. Given our crazy work schedules, i would prefer an in-home nanny at least through age 1. I like the idea of day care after that. Have lots of time to look.

From age 3-5 months, we were at an NAEYC-certified daycare center, 5 days/week (7 AM- 6 PM) in the suburbs between DC and Baltimore. It was $1600/week, and it was awesome. I loved that place.
Now we're at a center in DC that's only $1000/month (5 days/week, 7 AM- 6 PM, infant room) and it's only ok.

I have been researching daycare's in Raleigh and RTP. It looks like they range from $1000 to $1400/mo. The difference there is huge. Very little turn-over (infant caretakers had been there for 10 and 11 years respectively), 4-1 infant ratio, very clean rooms at the $1400 places. 5-1 infant ratio, not super clean areas (hallways had garbage bags in them when I visited) and more turn-over in the $1000 ones.

1) Monitarily free ree because my husband is in grad school and watches Wombat until mid-morning. Then, my MIL takes over. We pay in emotional, mental, and not being able to get his mom to follow our rules (example: we don't want her to use a pacifier and she plucks it in as soon as she comes over no matter how many times we tell her not to)
2) Family: husband and MIL
3) Technically, it's not really child care because it's family.
4) Half day with MIL
5) Infant
6) Small college town
