We only have a bit, every so often. Our pedi pushed solids at our 4 month appt, and my daughter didn't respond well. Avocados gave her a bad rash and indigestion, and squash made her constipated. We gave her a break for a few weeks then tried bananas, but she hated them! So funny, she spit it all over the floor on 3 separate occasions. I only do about 4 days of food at a time. And if we have extra, I let my dog eat the leftovers if it's canine-safe

I had a ton of breastmilk that overtook the deep freezer but had to donate due to my son's allergies :(. I also had a bunch of frozen cubes of baby food made but had to donate them as well.

Currently I am rebuilding my breastmilk stash and baby food, so we have some parsnips, apples, pears, and summer squash in the freezer, but at least half of them will need to be donated again (apples, squash)...

@artbee: Sadly, half of it is filled with microwavable meals for when we don't have the time to make a proper meal for ourselves.

I don't make too much stuff ahead, in fact there is no baby food in the freezer at all. I learned the hard way not to go to nuts because your kid might not love all the stuff you spent so much time and money making, but to each his own. You can't beat making big batches for the convenience, but if your kid doesn't like pureed peas, you'd better get ready to eat them, lol.

@artbee: i agree about starting slow since they don't need the nutrition from food yet anyway. we definitely did and she never had any constipation issues thankfully.

@Andrea: I thought my LO would be a good eater of solids too because she's a chunky monkey, 95th percentile for weight, and loves her bottle. I'm kind of sad she isn't. But I guess it's good after hearing about everyone else with their constipated babies after solids, I'd rather her start slow.

@artbee: i know. LO has always been a big eater. she was up to 6 oz of milk per feeding almost immediately. and yet she is still really skinny. if she keeps that up into adulthood i will be sooo jealous of her metabolism. :-)

@Andrea: Wow that's a lot! She's only on a cube a day now, but I'm assuming that will get higher soon. So far the only thing she's really eaten is sweet potatoes, before that she'd spit everything out and only eat a couple of bites. I don't know if it's because she didn't like anything else or she's finally getting the hang of solids.

@artbee: how many cubes does she eat at 1 meal now? my LO got up to 6-7 cubes per meal so 3x a day was about 21 cubes. i think that is why we ended up with such a big stash since that was a lot of cubes per day.

@Andrea: I know! But we give her one thing for 3 days then switch to something else. And for all of those things I have 1-2 ice cube trays full. The only thing she hasn't tried yet that I already have is apples, she'll get that on Sat. And I want to get bananas, but those aren't freezable so she'll get that fresh.

@artbee: 6 months to 1 year. She started to hate purees approaching 1 year but I forced them on her for a while because I had so much stock! So yeah, don't stock up tooooooo much but you still have a few months until she could possibility hate them (I think!).

@Andrea: How long was your LO eating purees? I'd like to make more but I'm worried she won't be able to finish all of it because there's so much there before going to finger food. Brings me back to my "do you waste food" post!

@Boogiebea: I wish our freezer was packed! We have plenty of room for anything LO wants... because we have no food for us.

@Sulli301: I'm jealous of the chest! My parents have one, and it's just the two of them now and that, plus the other two fridge/freezers they have are always full.

@Chopsuety119: I thought I'd make fresh but after learning how easy it is to make a big batch and freeze, it works better for me. Especially since I hate going to the grocery store.

None yet. We're still trying out different foods so I don't make very much of each. And she's just been eating pears for a while now - until her bm's are consistent again. Also, our freezer is not that big and it's already packed.

When my LO was on purees we went nuts and had so much. The entire bottom half of the freezer was full of LO's stuff! You name it we had it. Veg, fruit, meat, pasta, rice, all in frozen cubes so she had a wide variety.

So far I'm loving this making my own baby food thing.... especially because my freezer is full so I won't have to make some for a while! I feel like by the time LO is done with it she'll be ready for finger foods. Right now I have:

peas, carrots, sweet potatoes, and apples. I'd like to add another green veggie and another fruit. But it's kind of silly since I already have so much made.
