At this point we sent him with 10-12 oz a day of breast milk. At some points his interest seemed to wake but it was bc he was sick. Nurses like a champ til I weaned him at 15 months. He didn't care, I sobbed.

My guy was doing about 10-12 oz/day at daycare at that age. We also nursed in the morning, when getting home and before bed. We dropped that after daycare feed around 11 months I think.

My 1 year old has been self-weaning since 9 months. My older son did the same.

At 9/10 months, DS was at 18-20oz per 24 hour period, with the biggest bottles being at home with me in the morning and night (6oz, 5oz, 3oz, 6oz). At 11 months, he went down to 17oz and dropped a bottle completely (6oz, 5oz, 6oz), so at this point I was literally only packing one 5oz bottle to school. The last week or so, he's been refusing his one bottle or just taking an ounce or two and is reducing his morning and night bottles to about 5oz a piece, so we're down to 10-12oz total per day.

He eats a ton and drinks water. He turns one today, so I'm happy he's self-weaning so easily. I hope to be done with bottles in another month or so. I still have a little bit of a stash and some formula left, so we'll use that up first. DS1 couldn't handle WCM until 13 months, so I'm going to wait a bit since DS2 is a bit more dairy sensitive.

@LBee: @DesertDreams88: Thank you!

This is making me feel better -- seems like it's pretty normal for their milk consumption to start to decrease a little at this age. I'm always so worried about what/how much he's eating! I think partly because being the one breastfeeding him I feel a lot of pressure for him to be getting enough.

I was mostly exclusively pumping around then and I think he was on 4-5 bottles of 5 oz.... my boy loved his milk! More like 5 bottles around 9 months, and 4 bottles around 10 months.

Around that time DS started decreasing his bottles. I think he was down to two 6 oz bottles during the day while I was gone (8 AM to 5 PM) along with nursing in the AM and the PM. He had been doing eating every 4 hours since about 6 months with 8 oz bottles, but it was around 9 months that we decreased his ounces because he just wasn't finishing them and I was on the line of being able to pump wean and use my stash to get him to a year.

@SteelerGirl: Same, I'm pumping a little less these days. I'm guessing because he's getting less through nursing at home so my body is adjusting to that. We have his nine month appointment tomorrow, so I'll definitely ask the pedi as well!

@kayla0416: That's kind of what I'm thinking of trying. Seems like if he's still eating the third bottle when I pick him up, I could just nurse him then anyway. I don't think they start it until 5, and I'm there usually by 5:20.

@Smurfette: Thanks!

Around that time we switched from 3 4oz bottles to 2 5oz bottles. She had been not finishing bottles or not wanting a third one a lot around 9-10 months.

@skinnycow: yeah, food just seemed to click all of a sudden. We started with purees and moved to finger foods a few weeks ago, and he can't get enough. So I think that's definitely a factor in his diminished interest in bottles/nursing. Makes me a little sad because I enjoy BFing him!

I want to make sure he's still getting what he needs nutrition-wise from the milk, but I'm thinking if I start sending 12 oz. instead of 15 that would probably be fine...he nurses in the morning and at night as well.

My daughter is also approaching nine months and I'm noticing she may be ready to cut back a bit on her milk, too. We're going to ask the pediatrician at her 9 month well check, but I'm pretty convinced.
At her peak (around 4 months old) she was taking 6 ounces every three hours, now it's down to 5 oz every three hours, but I think she should go down to 4 oz.
She usually eats an entire jar of purees three times a day, too.
Also, I'm not pumping enough to sustain 5 oz bottles and I'm a firm believer that my body makes the right amount of milk for her.

DD was fairly consistent from the time she started daycare at 4.5 months until she turned 1. She was drinking 4-5 oz every 3 hours (so usually 12-15 oz for a day at daycare).

Sounds like your son may just need a little less because he's a good eater? DD ate pretty much nothing until she was 11-12 months old.

How much breast milk was your child eating around nine to 10 months? I've noticed my son seems less interested in general (he'll be nine months this week). I'm still sending 14 - 15 oz. of breast milk to daycare, which is what he's always had, but lately he doesn't always finish it all. He's also often still finishing the last few ounces of his third bottle when I pick him up. Should I be doing two bottles a day? Sending less milk or still trying to get 14 oz? He is a very good eater -- he'll eat anything and loves solid foods. So I'm sure that's a factor.

Second part of this is I have a work conference in June when he'll be 10 months, so I'm also trying to figure out how much I'll need to stockpile for him for that time. I don't really have much of a stash at this point so it'll be a bit tough....
