@googly-eyes: Aw, I hope so. We waited to start until she was definitely ready and we felt guilty eating in front of her because she eyed up every meal as though it were Tiffany diamonds, lol. Lots of fun!

@oliviaoblivia: it was awesome! She was SO excited to be sat up in her highchair and the whole experience of having a bowl and spoon. She loved being fed but didn't really like the taste (we have some pretty funny photos and videos) but that didn't stop her shovelling it in. A lot ended up dribbled out, DH was having a heart attack at the mess but it was lots of fun!

@PurpleUnicorn: I used just over an ounce of sweet potato and 2 oz breastmilk, pureed. The texture was nice and runny and she did really well with that. No gagging until she tried sticking the spoon too far back in her mouth!

@travelgirl1: probably yeah. It depends on your lo. But I'm just wondering if you'd rather bottle feed the pumped milk or nurse just so there's enough for the day, and because so much of it doesn't go down with the first feedings. But yeah half/half is probably ok.

When first starting out, my LO was eating maybe 3 or 4 tablespoons of a puree each day. I would mix about 1oz of milk to thin it out.

With sweet potatoes, I would cook them in the oven for an hour wrapped in tin foil, take them out and let them cool enough, then throw some of the flesh into a blender with the milk and mix well. One potato would usually give me enough for a week when we started out, so I froze a lot!

Just fed dd sweet potatoes last week. She eats 4 slices, (cut the round way) which we steamed for 15mins to get them extra soft then mush with spoon and add 0.5oz breast milk. She loved them! Shes will be 6 months this week.

@Mrsbells: 6 months. I got 2 oz out of the one boob I pumped just now. So maybe I'll add that to a few cubes of sp and add more cubes if it's too thin...

@travelgirl1: How old is she? When we started solids at 6 months i added about 4 oz od breast milk to a blender full of green beans puree. And I only gave her 1 oz of food in the beginning and then after a few days she was able to eat 2 oz

@googly-eyes: That sounds like what we did with the first feedings. He didn't like the rice cereal much when we attempted that as his first solid. He's almost 9 months and does 3-4 oz of puree or bits of table food now.

@travelgirl1: "acted like I was lowering her into a fire pit last night"
hahahhaha
I would steam it bc that keeps most of the nutrients in...I NEVER had extra bm and just used water to thin it out.

And don't put expectations on "how much" to feed. It's just a taste and for fun! She'll let you know when she's done. :)

@googly-eyes: I just pumped one boob and got 2oz. Will that be enough to mix with 1 or 2 oz of sweet potato do you think? It's her very first thing other than nursing so I literally have no idea what I'm doing, in case you couldn't tell, ha ha.

Lots of it will probably end up out of her mouth. You can use water and save the milk for nursing if you want especially if your supply is a little low today.

Oh and my LO did 1-2 oz feedings for awhile and by a month later did 3-4 but idk what you're supposed to do.

We're giving A her first solid today, yeah! Lucky girl has some sweet potato puree heading for her mouth later today.

Only thing is, I want to mix it with breastmilk to get the texture thin enough and I'm a bit low on supply today because my baby, who usually STTN in her crib, acted like I was lowering her into a fire pit last night and would only sleep in my arms so I got no sleep and my supply suffered. So how much would I need to pump to mix with her dinner? Oh and how many oz of sweet potato should I be offering, since it's her very first time? So excited! And should I steam the SP or is there a better way to cook it? God I clearly have no idea what I'm doing!
