See if you can find clotrimazole (generic of Gyne-Lotramin), it's a 10-day treatment which isn't as convenient, but it doesn't hurt and I find it works SO much better (if I use Monistat, the YI reoccurs about 50% of the time). Monistat irritated it as well. Cortisone cream is effective in relieving the itching feeling. Unfortunately I also develop resistant yeast that can't be treated with diflucan- it does nothing. I ended up in the ER (it was Thanksgiving and the doctor's office wasn't open). Turns out I had a vaginal bacterial infection and needed antibiotics. I irritated it with the Monistat. I would say it wasn't just an irritable burn though, it actually brought me to tears because I was so uncomfortable...
