@yoursilverlining: I don't normally eat Ranch for salads or dips, but a long time ago a friend made slow cooked wings in creamy Italian dressing that was pretty tasty (creamy Italian is also not something I'd typically pick). I forget what I initially Googled to find the creamy Italian recipe, but the pics and comments for this dish came up and was worth a try. Hope you try it and enjoy it!

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: those pictures! I personally don't like ranch, but I bet it would taste different cooked, and would make the chicken super juicy! interesting, I may have to try it...... nom nom nom

I think 2.5 to 3 (based on the amount of sides available) sounds right. I'd worry that 2 per person won't be enough.

The back story is this a home cook's take on Winner Winner Chicken Dinner that calls for creme fraiche. This recipe uses buttermilk ranch dressing.

I think 2 pieces pp will be plenty, but I'd make 2.5 pieces per person to be on the totally safe side (allowing for some ppl to have 3 legs). Apps within 45 minutes of dinner means most people won’t be super hungry, and if there are any sides that also decreases the amount of chicken each person will eat. Add in knowing there is dessert, and I can’t imagine most people will eat more than 2 legs, so 2.5 should give you plenty extra.

ETA: now you have me intrigued with what the chicken dish is!

@Smurfette: with that said I'm thinking of adding baked mac & cheese, which of course selfishly we're hoping for leftovers! @looch:

@looch: I'd imagine 2.5 pieces would account for situations where, for example, maybe I'd eat 2 pieces but my husband would eat 3.

I originally voted 2 a piece, but then realized that I ALWAYS over buy for parties, and would probably end up buying about 3 a piece. You could always have leftovers or send stuff with people.

I said 2.5 because I know I could eat 1 leg and 1 thigh or 3 legs.

I had to vote for 3 pieces, because I can't see how someone would manage with the half piece? Plus, leftovers!

I'm making a dish that calls for bone-in thighs and legs. I know not everyone is a fan of dark meat, but it's just one meal. My second test taster, my white-meat-only-loving-mother, said not to change a thing. I gave her only a leg to try. Anyway, with 26 guests how many pieces of chicken should I get? 22 guests are adults.

Initially I was thinking 2 per person, but now I'm thinking 2.5 or 3 per person. Guests may stay longer than I expect and want another round. The recipe is really good and I am pretty sure no one has ever had it before so for novelty sakes they may want more. I am not planning on anyone asking or making doggie bags to take home.

I figured I could make the first batch 1.5-2 per person ready by dinner time. Then, let the second batch .5-1 person cook while the party continues.

There will be appetizers served within 45 minutes or so of dinner and have a variety of desserts.

Note, 20% of the guests will leave early, 2-3 hours, after party begins due to other obligations.

Edit: I went back to my guest list, 26 RSVP'd yes.
