Curious about this too as 12 months approach! @mrsjyw: I am interested in having my LO have almond milk instead of cows. What were your ped's thoughts? Not sure if it is due to allergy or choice in your case.

DS has about three sippy cups of milk a day, so roughly about 20 oz. He drinks them from a straw sippy cup and usually has one after breakfast, one in the afternoon, and one before bed.

@dolphin: I always give him milk first thing in the am, then again after his first nap, after his 2nd nap and before bed! (before meals). Usually 6-8, 4, 4, 4,

I'll also offer water or Honest juice (he likes it a lot) during meal time. :)

@HabesBabe: ah at least she drinks cold milk! i've been warming up her cow's milk in a bottle. i really need to work on this!

@fancyfunction: wow just two weeks and she's drinking so much in a straw cup? that's awesome!

@NovBaby1112: @MamaChin: @lovehoneybee: @78h2o: thanks for sharing! this is helpful!

@MUI831: thanks for sharing! you are brave for going cold turkey! i'm such a chicken. haha. i know i just need to keep offering too and i haven't been good about that. my dd use to love drinking water from her straw cup but recently has been refusing that too. she just turns her head away like a snob. now she prefers to drink water in an open cup with me holding it.

@HabesBabe: it's not a straw cup, its a sippy...this one is the one we have had great success with. lots of reviews said it was an easy bottle to cup transition: http://www.amazon.com/NUK-Disney-Winnie-Ounces-Silicone/dp/B005A3OGR0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1387561104&sr=8-1&keywords=12%2B+sippy+cup

@dolphin: So the whole bottle weaning thing is a bear and we're still dealing with it. Our ped advised us at his 12 mo appt to get him off the bottle by 15 months. However, we knew that with DS, we needed to go cold turkey and couldn't just take a bottle away at a time. So over Thanksgiving, I had the 5 days off and we just dealt with it. He always drank water from a sippy or a straw cup but we decided to just go forward with the straw cup for everything. He wasn't having it. He would drink water all day but not milk. So we just kept offering. Some days were better than others.

It's been about a month and he still doesn't drink a lot of milk. Daycare he will drink some there. However, we offer yogurt and/or cheese at every meal. In fact, if we don't give him yogurt in the morning, he flips out. We still offer milk as well as water. He usually pushes the milk away but sometimes he'll take a few drinks. It's just not predictable. And I think he definitely is eating more than he was before, which makes sense.

One random "side effect" from taking the bottle away is that he's picked up the pacifier. He never really liked it before. Or he would take it for a few moments to calm himself down and then spit it out. Now, he constantly wants his wubbanub or a paci. Just another habit to break down the line. . .

My LO is drinking too much... I'm trying to cut back, though her ped thinks it's okay because she's super tall (99th percentile). I would say she has 24-32 oz per day + 4-8oz yogurt. Sometimes she is a great eater and other times she's pickier.

We were advised to aim for 16-20oz a day. E loves milk and drinks 3-8oz bottles a day (at almost 17m).

At one year he wasn't drinking any. It took a while to get him to drink it (at first he wouldn't touch it). But he also ate tons of yogurt and cheese and was still BFing 1-2x a day so I wasn't worried (nor was his pedi).

LO is almost 14 months. Our ped recommends 16-24oz a day of total dairy (milk, cheese, yogurt, etc). He drinks about 16-20oz of milk a day and I'll adjust his other dairy intake accordingly. He drinks throughout the day from a straw cup. He eats 3 good sized meals and maybe a snack or two on top of that. He doesn't eat that much meat and I asked my ped if the protein from dairy was enough and he suggested I add more beans to his diet.

@dolphin: we just transitioned her from the bottle to a sippy cup. we tried so many sippy/straw cups out there but finally found one that she loved and would drink her normal amount from. When we first transitioned her to whole milk in her bottle though, she was drinking a ton of milk...around 25-30oz a day. I wanted to scale back a bit so she would eat more food and it is working. She has 7 oz when she wakes up around 7:30, breakfast at 9, lunch at 12, 7 oz before nap at 12:30, dinner and some milk, and then another 7oz before bed.

She was eating about 3 meals a day, but would usually eat more during breakfast and lunch (not so much dinner). We're still using bottles for milk (I need to start stopping that soon!) and cups for water. We've given her straw cups with milk and she takes a sip, then spits it out (but will drink cold milk from a bottle).

@NovBaby1112: My DD loves her milk too! Do you give her milk in a bottle or a sippy/straw cup? Does your LO eat plenty of solids too? My DD doesn't eat much solids so I'm wondering if I need to reduce her milk but it's hard because she loves it! And milk is just easy!

@butterbean: Happy birthday to your LO! Can't believe they're ONE!!! At DD's one year wellness check her doctor was telling me all these transitions we need to work towards and it's overwhelming! Bottle weaning, no milk after teeth brushing, more table foods, etc. Gah! Congrats on being done with the pump. I hated it too. I wanted to throw it against the wall. How is your LO doing with the sippy cup?

@MUI831: My DD loves yogurt too! Did your DS eat plenty of solids when he was drinking 20-25 oz? Im wondering if I need to reduce her milk intake if I want her to eat more solids. She is such a picky eater! I tried giving her milk in a straw cup the other day and she straight up refused it. She drinks water from her straw cup though. I have a feeling this bottle weaning this is not going to easy! How long did it take for you to transition from bottle to cup?

@HabesBabe: How was your LO with solids when your LO was taking 20oz? And when did you fully transition from bottles to cup? I'm scared of bottle weaning. Haha! She eats so little as is but I can always count on her to finish her milk in a bottle!

LO is 17 months, but she's been drinking the same amount of milk since we transitioned to cow's milk at 1 year... three 8 oz bottles a day (one first thing in the morning, one at naptime, and one at bedtime). She sometimes doesn't finish her nap or bedtime bottle, so I think she drinks about 20 oz. a day.

When we started giving WCM in his bottle, DS would get about 20-24 oz a day. I think it was usually 4 6oz bottles. Now he's on a straw cup and we're happy if he drinks 5 oz a day. But that boy LOVES him some yogurt.

@dolphin: congrats! my LO turned one last week also....i've stopped pumping (i hated it) and usually have been nursing once in the morning and at bedtime (and when he gets up in the MOTN)...LO's pediatrician recommended at least 16oz of whole cows milk...so far we have been falling a little short of reaching that minimum...

LO is at daycare right now and we told them to use sippy cups (he's been getting bottles at home since he'll drink more from a bottle than a sippy cup)..we'll see how this transition goes...

So it looks like our breastfeeding journey has come to an end. Well almost. DD turned one last week and I officially stopped pumping but was planning to nurse for bedtime for as long as she wanted. The last few nights she's been taking a bottle of cows milk before bed and was able to go sleep without a nursing session! Happened sooner than I thought but I'm looking forward to having my body back. She still wakes up once in the middle of the night for a quick nursing session though. Bad habit I know! Now that it seems like we've pretty much fully transitioned to cow's milk, how much do you give a one year old?? Currently we've been giving four 5oz bottles of cows milks and she finishes it all. I'm waiting to transition her to a sippy cup when we return home. We're in the middle of traveling now and I want to take one transition at a time. Momma can't handle so much change! Haha!
