Mine has doubled. I've recently been using 2 gigs a month. I'm pretty sure I could halve it again but through conscious choice. We have a three-person family plan (his sister shares with us) and we have a 3 GB limit that we've never gone over among all of us. I typically use about 1 GB, maybe a bit less, DH uses like...1/4 of 1 GB, and his sister uses about 2 GB. I am constantly going into task manager to make sure I don't have any apps running in the background (sounds like you just fixed your settings so that doesn't happen though) and DH and I make sure our phones are set to connect automatically to the wi-fi at all the places we frequent...home, work, our parent's houses, etc. This way we're only using data if we're in the car (where if one of us is driving we're not using the phone anyway!) or somewhere that doesn't offer free wi-fi. I did realize one of the biggest things eating up my data was using the GPS on my phone for directions, so I started making sure I either use the old clunky Garmin GPS or looking up directions beforehand instead. As you scroll down you should see a listing of your apps with toggles to turn on/off cellular data. Under each app's name there will be a number if they used data. I check Facebook, IG and other apps on my phone all the time. I don't push my emails to my phone so maybe that's why I'm not using as much. We have a 10 gb shared family plan with 4 out 5 people on my plan having a smart phone. My dad got a smartphone (without my permission; my siblings and I pay for my parents cell phone bill ) and started watching all sorts of videos. If you notice one app is using a ton of data you can turn of the cellular data for individual apps on that page so that they can only use WiFi. I have data turned off when outside of Wifi for almost everything. I also don't have push notifications on. I feel like I am on my phone constantly. But we had a few months of overages when our plan changed until we could figure out how to stop the data suck. My monitor runs through my iphone, and if it kicked off of wifi overnight, it could literally eat 20G's in like 5 hours. We have 15GB we share and we almost always use about 90% of that. I stream pandora a lot at work without wifi (work blocks the site and no wifi connection available for personal devices) and LO watches youtube shows too. ETA: your provider can see where you're using data too - my husband's skyrocketed one month and Verizon was able to see and tell us what app and website were the culprit. That sucks up a ton of data! In settings, scroll to you social media apps, then hit settings within them. Make sure "Background App Refresh" is not turned on...unless you really NEED them to be updated and can't wait 2 seconds for the update when you open the app manually. I use 0.75 and may husband uses 4.25. He checked and discovered it was a Solitaire app that was using all his data. I think he used Verizon to see what specifically was eating his data and then went from there? I specifically make sure to only stream music or video when I'm using wireless instead of cellular. @mediagirl: That seems WAY too high for just social media. Are you sure you're not either streaming or using GPS somehow without knowing it? Not sure what type of phone you have but there are a ton of tips online to reduce your data usage. I'd do a google search and try some out. I tend to just use a Wi-Fi connection at home and stay "unconnected" when out.
