We didn't paint but we took the opportunity to get rid of the popcorn ceilings. We ended up having to do a little bit of touch up when that was finished. Our wall colors were neutral and I liked what the previous owners had chosen. When I say slowly, I mean ridiculously slow. I think the neighbors celebrated when we finished the front. What's sad is it's actually not even finished! It took two coats of primer and two coats of paint to beat the purple into submission. So if you aren't covering up Barney purple, you will probably be fine. When we first moved in we painted the kitchen, main floor bath, and lower level living room. A few months later I painted the dining room. Next year I (had) painted all the hallways, great room, bedroom, and master bath. The bedroom especially didn't feel like it was mine until I painted over the hideous purple. If you can swing it, get your paint color-matched in Ben Moore or Sherwin-Williams paint. We made the final decision once we were in the home and could see our choices in the correct lighting, then narrowed it down from there. </p> <p>We actually hired someone to paint the entire house for us. He managed to do it all in three days.
