Mrs. Dumpling wrote a great post about the grand total for her baby girl http://omgmom.blogspot.com/2010/02/is-it-expensive-to-have-baby.html

I live in fort worth & my doctor & hospital is in south fort worth, for comparision. I work for a smaller company & we don't have the best insurance. my husband is choctaw & gets free health insurance, but for the baby to be covered by that, we would need to go through indian health services & that's really inconvenient due to distance, so we're using solely my insurance.
So far, Dr bill is: ~1350
hospital bill: ~1200
{these are both as long as I have an uncomplicated, vaginal delivery - anything unexpected happens & it will be more, woo hoo}
and I've paid ~11 for prenatal vitamins

so grand total {thus far} is ~$1561, man :/

Let's see:

Total cost billed to insurance was $3000, for 4 days in the hospital. We owe $36, which is for the cost of my husband's meals that he ate while at the hospital. My health insurance costs $250 a month, but it's mandatory to be covered, so I didn't include it in the calculation. We also upgraded to a private room for an additional $1000 but we have never been billed for it.

Prenatal vitamins: I used a drugstore brand, I think I went through 6 bottles (using buy one get one free)...$50 max

Maternity clothing: I bought very little with the intention of wearing it until it disgusted me and I could give it away: $200

Nursery: IKEA for us, just under $500

Grand total: $786

With our insurance, we have to pay $30 for the first doctor visit and $500 deductible for the hospital, but everything else (including ultrasounds, extra tests, or even if I had to have a c-section) was covered.

For prenatals, I just used drugstore brands so about $15/month (totaling ~$150, I assume).

Maternity clothes, about $200.

Nursery, just under $500.

So all in all, about $1380.

I did a big breakdown on my blog, not sure if we have the same self-promo rules here, but this is the link if you want more info on what I included in the costs...http://www.killerbdesigns.com/the-cost-of-a-baby/

With pretty much all purchases/medical bills included, it was $2500. That's nursery, maternity clothes, prenatals, the whole nine

we'll see how much other things come out to, but so far for my current ob, i paid $20. i was told i don't have to pay for anything else unless my insurance doesn't cover labs. i was told that the hospital i'll be giving birth at has private rooms for all so i guess it's free? plus, my hubby is an employee of the hospital so i think my overall hospital stay is free.

HOWEVER, so far, paid a lot to GET pregnant. copays for infertility treatments, ivf process and medications.... i'd say about $4,000-5,000 (my insurance paid 80% of the ivf).

I live in Ontario, Canada so we pay very little unless you have a semi or private room. C-sections are completely covered too.
So ultrasounds, hospital stay, drs visits, bloodwork, etc =$0
Private room =$108 for whole stay(OHIP+private insurance=what was left over)
Prenatals were $70 bucks for 9 months

I didn't keep good records with Charlie but I will this time around. I can't recall paying anything for the doctor's visits.

Our hospital stay was $700/night x 3 nights = $2100
What insurance didn't cover, esp since I got a c section = ~ $3000?
prenatal vitamins were $50/month x 9 months = $450

That's about $5500, but I'm pretty sure the figure was higher.

What do you estimate you spent between the time you found out you were pregnant until you took your baby home? I'm thinking everything - ultrasounds, dr. visits, prenatal drugs, hospital stay(s), maternity clothes, etc.
