We make a list and almost never do impulse buys. I think it helps that we don't "stroll" either. We get what we came for and leave. We've found a good rule of thumb is an average of $10 for every item in the cart and that really works for us. That budget includes Carter's pajamas or outfits for LO's, food and household items. We would probably leave with spending $100-120 without food (every trip so every 2 weeks). We'll typically buy some other food items that can be frozen. Sometimes my husband will get beer, and sometimes we buy the Kirkland brand Allegra. </p> <p>It's easy to spend a lot but I don't find it too hard to just stick to the essentials.
