If there's something they desperately want, I'm ok if someone else gets it as a present for them. Really all they have are a few frozen-themed puzzles, and an Elsa/Anna doll set. They've mostly lost interest in the dolls, but the puzzles are a hit - more because they love puzzles than anything else though.</p> <p>I definitely don't buy character clothes. Plus a lot of things he can still play with - he has a Thomas tent that he still uses even though he's more into Paw Patrol these days. </p> <p>And speaking of, I try not to get him too many toys in general (we requested no gifts for his recent birthday party though he still got from family) so I asked my husband not to get him a bunch of Paw Patrol figurines. I try to avoid it, and my son gets very little exposure to it. Not sure what will happen as he gets older and more aware of it. At 2.5 I still get to control a lot of what crosses his path, but I know that won't last forever.</p> <p>We do not watch TV at all (except occasionally when he is asleep, plus the Olympics. I am curious how much you give into character toys. I don't want to be a "mean mom" and not get them the things they really want, but I think I need to make it make sense for us. DH always said as a kid he NEVER got what he asked for, his parents always got him what they wanted, not what he wanted and I don't want my kids to feel that way either. </p>
