That's what I ask first. FWIW I've had a 16 year old, 13 year old and 15 year old babysit for me within the last month and they ALL said $5/hour!! I was willing to pay more like $7-$8 if need be but they gave me that price.</p> <p>I personally don't think it's too low for a young teen. They wouldn't legally be able to get a job now anyway at min. wage! I didn't start working until I was 16 and that's when I started charging what I was making at my job to babysit, which at the time was just over $6! hahaha. Now I think min wage is between $7-$8. </p> <p>Sometimes you can talk with the parents on what they think is fair too if you're doubting yourself or the price you talked about with the teen. I did babysit for one family for $5/hr but I saw it as a favor because they were not doing well financially. Nowadays, I would probably pay $8-10/hr plus pizza money. But if you know $5/hr is standard for your area/family that sounds fine!
