Compost goes every week, garbage and recycling alternate. Yard waste is allowed on certain pickup dates through the warmer months and large items are allowed all the time on garbage days (I think that this is to avoid people just ditching stuff on the street!). We have trash, recycling and yard waste pickup but no composting. They do however mulch the sticks and branches and offer free mulch to residents. That includes water too though. </p> <p>A few years ago, we downsized our bins (to a tiny trash can, medium compost) and it ended up saving a lot, since we rarely filled them up. I figured having smaller bins year round and paying occasionally for an extra bag is cheaper than paying for half empty bigger bins all the time.
