You can always look into getting aerators for your faucets, letting the yellow mellow (though you might want to throw toilet paper away instead of flushing it then). Do you have a dishwasher? Newer ones use less water than washing by hand. And if it's old and is leaking or running, it can go through 100 or more gallons a day. Most water districts have free auditors that will come to your house if you request it and are metered. They can check to make sure you don't have any leaks and give you suggestions on how to reduce your usage.</p> <p>We pay $250/quarter for water and sewer; we are not metered (yet) so our bill would probably be a little higher if we were on the meter rate instead of the flat rate we pay now. Honestly it was a lot more than what I was expecting! Everyone always said oh water is so cheap!! Well, I have to disagree. We get billed quarterly (so every 3 months) and our bill for usage was $141, so almost $50/month! I think that's a lot!</p> <p>We don't even use that much water! Each of us shower, I probably have 4-5 loads of laundry each week. We never watered our grass outside, and I really don't think we used water that much!
