I just did the math. $13.23 per hour when there are 20 open days per month. We pay a babysitter $15 per hour for date nights. (Plus usually a little tip too)

We pay a flat monthly fee at our center, but if I do the math based on the typical number of hours she usually spends there (about 10.5 hours per day), that works out to just above $5 per hour. Definitely on the cheap end for our area, it's a phenomenal deal IMO.

@Anagram: Are you switching to public preschool soon?

If we have a second child, we will need another nanny but I think it will work out so that T will start free public preschool around the same time. So our childcare expenses will go up (since the nanny will have two charges instead of one) but hopefully not too dramatically since we will drop daycare and avoid paying for double coverage.

We pay flat monthly and weekly rates to our daycare and our sitter even though we don't always use all the time.

Our daycare/preschool's rate works out to $11.84/hour for five half days including before care (dropoff as early as 7am). It would be $13.04/hour without before care (8:30 dropoff). The rate per hour goes up for fewer days per week but we use all five.

We pay our sitter $14/hr for three afternoons per week, and my parent watch him for free two afternoons per week.

So, the average technically works out to $10.08/hr for 60 hours of coverage per week, but we never drop him off at exactly 7am -- and a couple times per week I drop him off around 8:30 -- and I almost always get home earlier than 7pm. If I don't include the free grandparent care, then the average for the paid time is $12.61/hr. And realistically it's more like $14.40/hr if I divide by the amount of hours we actually use rather than what we are eligible to use. But we need flexibility for earlier drop off and later arrival because some days we do need to use it even if it's not our standard routine.

She Is the least expensive I've seen in my city!

Our preschool / daycare charges $6.13 an hour incl sibling discount but our rate is further discounted because we're military and we pay via Internet banking.

All up, we pay about $165 per week for 25 hours of childcare (so a total of fifty hours for two kids) because my big girl is entitled to eighteen hours of free childcare through the government.

We don't have full time childcare because MIL was watching them for 2-4 weeks at a time but when MIL is not here, we pay a nanny between $16-25 an hour for our 11 month old twins.

I am considering looking into daycare in a few months and I'm wondering how much it would cost.

We start in 2 1/2 weeks, but the rate is $45 per day for in-home daycare. It works out to be $4.75 an hour. There is oversight by an agency, so the daycare lady doesn't even get all that! I feel little bad about it. She has 3 kids in her care.

$2.50 an hour for our 2.5 year old son. Our new baby will be $3 an hour until he is 2 years old. I feel bad it is so low (especially since my daycare provider is my aunt- she has an in home daycare). I make sure he gets at least 40 hours for the week, even if we will be gone on Friday or something because I know she relies on us for her income.

We use a center, and are allowed 50 hrs week (10/day). They're usually only there 9 hrs but using the 50 hour number since that's what we pay for.

Son is in older toddlers - 3.33/hr. and daughter (1 yr old room) - 4.32/hr. so combined, $7.65/hr.

@LatteLove: I was struggling with picking in-home vs center too knowing how much cheaper in-home is... But in the end we went with a center and although it's so expensive, I just value what a center offers so much more in the end. Not to say I won't change my mind when I have to have 2 in daycare!

@oliviaoblivia: $15/hr would actually be more expensive for us than $100/day. $100/day is only $500/week, but $15/hr for 50 hours (which is how much my kids are in daycare) is $750/week. I'm guessing you're not paying for 50 hours though!

I voted between 5 and 10, for situations when we used a daycare and a standalone preschool. If I really wanted to be precise, I would have added in the free care that we get from my parents.
