LO is 7mo and I have been a WOHM since he was 3 months. I usually pump 3 times at work for a total of about 15 ounces.

We usually nurse before leaving the house, twice before bed and then 1-2 overnight feedings.

I pump 4 times a day, and usually one of those is at work and I get about 9 oz. Sometimes I will pump twice at work (then not again until right before I go to bed) and those times, I usually get about 6 oz then 5 oz.

I'm 11 mos post-partum, so my supply is at an all-time low. Right now, I pump once only because work has been crazy and thus I'm only getting 3 oz :(

@Meggo5: I feel like it has taken over my life too! DD is 4.5 months and I just returned to work last week. My feeding/pumping schedule is this:

6:30am - nurse
10:00am - pump (I usually get 6 oz)
1:00pm - pump (I usually get 4 oz)
4:00pm - pump (I usually get 3-3.5 oz)
7-7:30pm - nurse

DD takes 3 4.5-oz bottles while I'm gone. I think I am going to start sending 5 oz bottles, as she is now usually eating 5x total per day instead of 6x. She nurses A LOT in the morning and evening - maybe because she's hungry, or maybe because she likes nursing better than bottles. She occasionally wakes up around 3:30-4am, so I will feed her then too if she does.

If I haven't pumped 13.5 oz during the day, I will pump again around 10pm before I go to bed. I might have to start doing this every night anyway in order to get 15 oz to send to daycare every day. So, pumping 4 times per day and nursing 2-3 times per day - it's a lot! But hang in there, you will figure it out!

Thanks, all, for your amazing advice and ideas of when to pump and how much you typically get.

I do have a small (very small!) freezer stash which I will use if I'm low. I hope that I will have better success in the mornings moving forward, hopefully once I get into more of a routine.

Also, I am not against supplementing and am coming to terms with the fact that I may just need to do that in the near future. I just wish that it was easier to be away from my baby and I know I am causing myself some unnecessary stress by getting so worked up over this. I feel like pumping could easily take over my life!

@Meggo5: I just wanted to add that if you end up needing to supplement with formula (I did and still do) then that's okay too! Your LO is still getting all the benefits of breastmilk, so try not to put so much pressure on yourself.

Best wishes on your first day back. I usually pump between 12-14oz in three sessions (9, 12, 3). DS is eating around 12oz a day so I just keep up with the demand; if there is any extra I freeze it for days when I pump a little less.

Try not to stress too much about how much you pump (I know easier said than done) and make sure you continue to drink lots of water. Keep in mind that you may pump different amounts at different times of the day and week. I keep an excel spreadsheet to track how much I pump each day so I can think about possible causes if I have a low day.

I've been back to work for almost 7 months now and pump 5x a day and get 15-20oz. Once while getting ready in the morning, 3x at work, and once after E goes to bed. My supply has definitely gone through some ups and downs and I spend a ridiculous amount of time stressing about having enough milk for him. Having a freezer stash really does help though so that if you don't pump enough one day you have a backup.

I used to just be able to pump on weekdays and then breastfeed all weekend and be fine on Monday again. But, he eats less often than I pump now, and I have to pump after his feedings and after he goes to bed on weekends to keep my supply up.

Once you get into more of a routine your body will adjust. Cut yourself a little slack this first week back and you'll get into a good groove soon enough.

Try not to stress! Do you have a freezer stash? If not, could you work in an extra pumping session a day for a few weeks to build a stash?

The most helpful thing when I returned to work was having a freezer stash. I wasn't as worried about how much I pumped at work (because I knew I'd have enough milk to feed LO if I was going through a rough patch).

I would need to pump three times to cover two feedings (and have a little bit extra). I would pump twice at work and once before I went to bed.

Good luck!

I pump 3x a day usually and get 20-25 oz.. LO took 16 oz a day when she started at daycare, went up to 18 oz, then 20 oz and now has dropped back down to 18 oz with the addition of solids.

@Meggo5: @MaisyMay: good luck ladies, I hope today is fabulous for both of you! If for any reason you get less than you hoped for by pumping, hand express after, I always get more that way.

I pump 2 times at work (9-5 workday). I pump at 11 and then again at 3:30. It takes me about 20 minutes per pump session. Of the two, I get about 20 oz total. Although if I cut my pump session short because of work, I'll get less.

I pump 3x/day - 9, 12 and 3. Sometimes I pump earlier, sometimes I pump later but I always try to get those three sessions in. I usually get about 15oz/day. Sometimes more, sometimes less. If I get more, I store it for the days when I get less.

Do you have a freezer stash? I found I had to use mine a few times when I didn't pump as much during the day but was able to replenish at other times.

I also pump at night or first thing in the morning (after her feeding) if I'm engorged or just need more milk. I'm too lazy to pump more than just at work if I don't have to, though. :)

Just wanted to say that today is my first day back too, and I'll be pumping. Good luck! If your supply drops a little, I've been told to add another pumping session, even in the middle of the night if needed.

I usually pump bw 15-23 oz per day. Usually 5 oz at home in the morning and the rest between 2 pumping sessions at work. LO is taking three 5 oz bottles at daycare, so I usually pump enough for the next day.

I pump 3 x Monday - Friday (1 x at home 2 x at work). On Friday if I have any left I freeze it. I also pump on Saturday and Sunday morning just one time. On Sunday night I pull down 2-3 bags of frozen milk to start out the week and help cycle through my stash.

I know I have had a bunch of pumping questions lately but today is my first day back at work!

I am curious how much you can pump at work? I am hoping to continue using just pumped milk (not supplementing with formula) but am nervous that I will not
produce enough at work for the next day. Do you have a pumping schedule or routine that allows you to produce enough for daycare? I was extremely anxious coming back this morning and, as a result, hardly pumped anything before leaving the house. I am hoping that's just due to the nerves and getting into our new routine, but I'm hoping to pump enough milk for daycare.
