Reading is my hobby too, and I mostly buy books for my nook app from Barnes & Noble, so I spend quite a bit. In 2016 I finally figured out ebooks from our library! I still buy quite a few books, though, because I can't stand the long waitlist if it's a book I'm dying to read!

ETA: My other big hobby is buying expensive clothes for my kids. I'm hoping to start reselling some of their clothes soon to offset all my purchasing!

Sewing: I don't want to think about it. I buy quality quilting fabric and nice apparel fabric (I'm not as snobby with my apparel fabric).

Running: $$ on shoes and I try to stick to local races so I don't have to shell out for travel/lodging.

Cross country skiing is expensive but I don't have time to go anymore and all my gear was gifted to me

Seeing/quilting is pretty expensive. I buy nicer fabrics and it adds up. So far I have used most of what I buy (aside from scraps) so it's not like I'm hoarding fabric. But definitely expensive!

Yoga classes can be pricey, so I try to practice at home and only go to a class once a week or so.

I also go through quilting and sewing spurts, and fabric is expensive!!

My hobbies are sports related, so a lot. My husband and I have most of the bikes we need, but we each want one or two more in the future - and we each already have four. Actually three? Anyway, just, money money money. Bikes are nice because once you've invested, you've got it - but bike racing is very expensive. We spend a lot of money on racing fees and upkeep during the season. And then the clothing, gear for commuting, etc.

My other two big ones are paddleboarding and snow stuff. We need another paddleboard, and then a few kid sized ones, I guess, when the kids get old enough. Snow sports are a new thing for me, so in the next few years I'll buy both snow shoes and cross country skiis, for myself and the whole family. Thankfully those are relatively inexpensive and available used.

It's a lot of money, and I feel privileged to be able to spend it. I feel good about putting my money towards active hobbies that aren't just fun - they keep me healthy. And it's nice to invest in gear and then be able to keep using it forever.

Um, I am embarrassed to say, although all equipment was purchased pre-kids. I have three very expensive hobbies: astronomy, scuba diving, and photography. Sad to say, we've both had to put our hobbies on hold for a little while, but we have a lot invested, and look forward to the day when we have more time/ability to devote to them.

Astronomy: I have 4 telescopes, and a lot of eyepieces and other accessories. I haven't taken any big trips with this hobby, but have driven for 8+ hours each way to get to a dark sky site for a weekend on many occasions.

Scuba diving: DH and I have dived all over the world, in all manner of conditions (33-80+ F waters), which requires a wide range of equipment. We love to travel, so all our travel options have geared toward this hobby in the 5 years between getting married and starting a family. Being pregnant, nursing, and pregnant again has put a hold on this, but we'll get back into it some day.

Photography: I know there are some photog bees on here, so they can attest to how $ it can be. A lot of the money we have put into this hobby has been to support my other two, i.e., underwater housing, strobes and ballast, and connectors for the telescopes, though.

I've actually had to make a ton of rules about spending on hobbies because I tend to get carried away! I only buy a book if I'm on my third reread. And I never spend more than $50 at a time in the first six months of a hobby (basically no big purchases until it's an established hobby).

My biggest issue is cookbooks and yarn. I love cookbooks and they're super expensive. Likewise, yarn for a project gets pricey fast!

Ummm, lots and lots of money lol. DH and I both hunt, bow and rifle. One of the reasons we're big on paying debt off is so we'll be able to take more hunting trips a year.

If you are into a hobby, how much money do you put towards it?

I'm really into reading, and it's great that the library is easily accessible, but I kind of like to collect books and keep them as part of my hobby. Unfortunately books can get pretty expensive! Some months I don't buy any but some months I spend $30-$50. Of course some of this is part of gift money. I wish hobbies weren't so expensive, but luckily it gives me hours and hours of entertainment.
