I didn't used to, but I find it a lot easier now that he talks to me too. I felt like an idiot when he was 4 months old and just staring at me- now it's kind of natural, i.e. he hands me a book and I'll say "Oh, you want to read that inane Baby Giggles book for the hundredth time? That's great!"
DH told me the other day that I speak to LO almost exclusively in questions. "Is that your bear?" "Can you turn the page for me?" "Can you hand me your car?" "Is it time to put your shoes on?"
Can't wait till LO's first words are "Duh, mom. That's my ball. We've been over this."

LOL i'm with @looch... ! My LO is going on 16-months now so she is also a lot more "verbal" and interactive so i feel the need to respond to her expectant, probing eyes (she's a very very curious girl). i probably talked less to her when she was younger.

@mrsbee - really?? how so? that's interesting you can tell a huge difference!

I read that the key is to respond to any vocalizations that your baby makes, either by speaking or by touching your baby. I started doing it with Olive and holy cow, what a huge difference it makes!

I think I do but I am not a SAHM. I'd imagine it would be tiring to talk to your LO ALL day so some silence is good, too!

I used to have to make a conscious effort to talk to LO too. I don't talk to her as much as I should I think. :T That's why I started playing Christian children's music in the background! Pandora!

Yesterday I made a startling realization that I could go hours without uttering any words to LO! Usually, I try to make an effort to make conversation with her or, at least, have her hear my voice but yesterday was a bad day and I just didn't feel like it. So essentially, the whole was was a quiet one.

I wonder if other moms feel the same way. Is it EASY for you to talk to your LO (who is too little to respond)? I find it really hard...
