But if I go to a small local coffee joint, then I will tip a buck or 2.</p> <p>For alcohol, it's complicated :-) For the first drink I always tip very well ($3-$4) if I'm drinking mix drinks. Normally I get their attention that way. Then when I am almost done with that drink I'm almost garunteed that they will give me another one immediately. No waiting/trying to get the bartenders attention. The most I ever tipped was $20 at Starbucks because the people in line were so rude behind me and I felt bad for the baristas. </p> <p>When I was a barista we found a roll of 20's in our tip jar! $180, I couldn't imagine tipping that much?! If I order a bottle of beer I usually tip $1 which is more than 20%.
