@T.H.O.U.: I do have an iphone. And I actually have the kindle app, which I have used to read a couple books in a pinch when I ran out of books on vacation and I could get them lent from a friend! I could just use that too. It just is a little annoying to me because you have to scroll pages like, every 10 seconds because they are so small.

@MrsTal: good to know about the library! I looked at the kindle lend-able books when we first got the ipad 2 years ago, and I remember thinking the selection was really not that great at that point. Plus I tried to read 1 book on the ipad and it was too heavy and annoyed me so I just stopped haha. I'll have to take a look again.

I love, love, love reading on my kindle over my ipad. It really reduces eye strain and it is way lighter. And now the the library's selection has gotten better I can get ebooks for free.

@Mae: do you have a smart phone? I just use the e reader apps because it's easier to hold my phone then the larger iPad.

i have an ipad, which I love. but, i also loved it pre-baby. it was amazing for one handed surfing while I was nursing for hours on end in the early days! my sister recently bought an ipad mini, and i much prefer the size of that over my fullsized ipad

i also have a kindle touch, which i appreciate for the ease of carrying all your books everywhere, but i still find myself buying actual paperbacks instead. my kindle has been adopted by DH instead

@ShootingStar: So funny. Maybe I have a little bit of collector in me? We have hundreds of movies. But they are all very well organized in a gorgeous media center we bought specifically for that purpose! haha We re-watch a lot though. I'm a big movie person!

@Mae: Oh man, there's nothing I hate more than having movies on the shelf! Electronic copies all the way, please! Or no copies, lol. I almost never want to re-watch movies so having them around bugs me to no end. Books I'll eventually read again.

I prefer reading actual books, and using my iPhone to go online {on the go and at home}.

I have a Kindle Fire and the only time I ever used it was when LO was teeny tiny and it didn't distract him. We also have an iPad, but I never use that as an e-reader or for much else since I'm so accustomed to using phone.

I have a kindle that I bought a couple years ago. I love reading Ebooks on it when I have time. The HB book club got me to read again recently.

As for ipad, I'm hoping to be pregnant this next year and so I'm planning on getting the new ipad mini with retina when it comes out at the end of Nov.

My old kindle doesn't browse as easily as the ipad. After I get my ipad, I would think my kindle would still be used to read.

I heard it's good to have something handy and small when nursing.

My mom gave me a book as a hand me down when LO was born and it was my sanity saver the first few months. I would read books or blogs while nursing and rocking LO to sleep, but I didn't have a smart phone at the time so I don't know how much I would use it if I had both. Now that I no longer rock LO to sleep I haven't used it in a while.

I did want to add that you can get library books for your nook or kindle so you don't always have to spend money...

I have a nook and I haven't used it since November 2012 when I was in the hospital having dd. I just don't have the time. It's sitting in the too of my closet collecting dust.

I love my iPad mini. I'm on it 90% of time while nursing. Usually on HB or playing candy crush. I still prefer to read books the old fashioned way!

I'm surprised how many ppl love the ipad over an e-reader! I feel like such a weirdo because I just can't get comfortable using my husband's ipad. It just seems to take for-ev-er to do anything without a keyboard. I'm so attached to my laptop! But I know I probably can't use my laptop as much once the baby is born so maybe I would use it more... :/

My DH wanted to get me an iPad forever. I always said if I got anything it would be a kindle (already have an iPhone and a laptop). Well DH got me an iPad mini last Christmas and I'm obsessed. I carry it around like a security blanket. ;) mostly use it for internet stuff though, like hellobee-ing. During lo's newborn days it got a ton of use, like watching netflix while nursing or entertaining myself on the days he would only nap while being held.

I still love real books more though. I've bought a handful of eeze books and only actually finished one (a birthing book, while pregnant). Of course, with a six month old I also never read anymore! ;)

@ShootingStar: So funny how different people's perspectives can be! I can definitely understand not liking clutter. I don't either (and I actually round up my books to take to donation twice/year or so). I guess I'm just cheap and when I have a physical book I feel like I really spent my money on SOMETHING. haha. I'm the same about my movies. If my husband has an electronic version of the movie I don't feel we own it until we buy the physical blu ray :)

I really like real books too. I have a tendency to read before bed, get sleepy, and the book falls out of hands when I doze off. However, ever since baby I've had insomnia so I like reading ebooks via iBooks app, blogs, connect on HB, online shopping, and writing in my journal app, all on my iPad. So convenient.

I have an iPad 2 and love it! I seriously use it every day. I use the iBooks app and read in bed every night.

You might go check out the iPad mini, it's a similar size to the other small tablets. The new full size iPad Air was also built to be thinner and lighter. The old models were nearly half a pound heavier (1.44lbs vs 1.09lbs, I think).

I love my paper white. I thought my iPad (first gen) was too heavy and annoying for reading. But I love my kindle. But I also love not having books on a shelf, I hate clutter. I like having all my books at my fingertips.

I'm not an e-reader person. I really like real books. I've tried borrowing my mom's nook for a while and it just seemed heavy and clunky and it sort of annoys me to pay for a book that I can't then physically set on my shelf. Also, my husband has an iPad (well, we got it for "us")... and I don't like it. Again it feels heavy to me and I hate typing on it. I'd much rather just use my laptop when I want a computer or my iphone when I want to check on something quickly.

That being said-- I'm beginning to wonder if I should get an e-reader before the baby comes. I hear a lot of people say they use them when the baby is nursing and it is a lifesaver. How true has this been for you?

Has anyone converted from an e-reader/ipad hater to a lover post-baby?

I think IF I got one it would be maybe the 6" paperwhite kindle because that seems really small and light and easy to use with one hand while nursing. I'm open to opinions though (including the opinion that if I haven't liked them before, I won't like them more post-baby).
