The transvaginal that I had was billed at 250, discounted down to about 195 (which I paid all of). The normal ones that I have done at MFM have been $250 - $675 each.

Geez. Mine were $600. I has to pay 20% upfront. My new insurance claimed it was out of network. I appealed since it was the only provider sand they are going to resubmit the claim but I haven't had a new EOB yet. I think it shoukd be zero because we are almost at our max.

Last pregnancy my insurance covered one completely and I think I paid the full $600 for the other since we hadn't met our deductible.

I paid out of pocket for my first ultrasound at 6 weeks with my old GYN who doesn't take OB patients because I was struggling to find a doctor who could see me before my 12 week visit. Long story long, my GYN doesn't accept my insurance for ultrasounds anymore so I paid $70 for it. No regrets! But glad I won't have to pay (hopefully) that much for each one for this pregnancy. I have my NT scan next Friday so I guess i will see then!

If it happens during a routine visit with my OB/GYN pay nothing other than my $15 copay for the office visit. If its a specific ultrasound appointment with radiology or its related to prenatal care, it costs me $0 because my coverage provides for free lab work and prenatal.

I paid about $140 for a transvaginal ultrasound, and it looks like I'll be paying around $250 for my 20 week ultrasound.
My insurance doesn't cover ultrasounds until my deductible is met, then they're covered at 80%.

My office charges $245, and the insurance discounts $172, of which they pay $65 of, leaving me to owe $7 out of pocket. There is no doctor visit charges or copay for monitoring sessions.

So I actually just received an explanation of benefits for my first ultrasound at my confirmation appointment (I had a very early ultrasound). I paid my $10 copay.

The office billed 233 for the ultrasound. It looks like my insurance will only pay 121.34 for the ultrasound, but because they have a contract they can't charge me for the rest. So basically it looks like the office takes a loss of 111.66.

I wonder if your insurance doesn't have that same contract with the provider and you have to pay the difference? If so, it sounds like the amounts are comparable.

I didn't have to pay anything for any of mine. Like @Mrs. Lion, we just paid a copay for the first confirmation appointment and then I didn't owe anything else.

I asked about the global billing - apparently that doesn't cover labs/ultrasounds, only office visits and delivery

The billed amount was Around $250 each. I paid $45 for one ultrasound during monitoring at my RE. Then we met our deducible and I paid 10%.

@MaryM: if we hadn't met our deductible, we'd have to pay out of pocket for uktrasounds.

Same as @Mrs. Lion:

I can't even count how many I've had. Some were pregnancy related, some were follow ups to follow cysts. I've never been charged beyond my copay.

Does your office not bill globally for pregnancy? Aside from our initial visit to confirm the pregnancy (we pay a copay for that) we dont pay anything until after the postpartum appointment. I dont know what individual ultrasounds cost...but i am surprised that you are getting bills.

I've had 2 ultrasounds - one while i was TTC to help diagnose PCOS, the another at 7 weeks pregnant. Both were transvagional, both cost $106.00 That's just the cost of the actual ultrasound, not any copay or doctor visit fees. And this is the cost to ME, not the total which is then reduced by insurance. This is what my actual bill was.
