The average in my neighborhood is $7500/mo. The cheapest I see in my specific neighborhood is $3,800 and they can also be upwards of $15,000.
A true 3 bedroom is not very common here. I live in a new luxury condo building and we don't have any 3 bedroom units.

I just looked at a rental site for Hoboken, and the cheapest (have no idea the neighborhood) was 3800/month and the most expensive was a brownstone for 7500/month.

It all depends on if there's parking, amenities, location, etc.

in chicago -- as cheap as $2500/mo for a place that isn't rehabbed at all (think college housing) to about 3000-3500 for a normal place and sky is the limit for fancy buildings :)

when we were looking at renting vs buying, we were planning around 3k for a 3bed.

to buy - 450-650k in the neighborhoods we looked in (downtown and near north side like lincoln park)

I'm not totally sure since apartments are listed with the number of total rooms and not the number of bedrooms. But in my neighborhood I would say the equivalent of about $2500-3500.

To rent, $700-$1300 depending on if you want a garage.

To buy, $150k-$350k.

You'd be looking at 1500-2000 sq feet and an older house, possibly 1 car or no garage on the low end; new construction, 2000 sq ft + and 2-3 car garage on the high end.

I live in North Dakota.

Lower end is 1900-3500, higher end closer to san francisco and the estate style homes in my county 6000-20,000...... I just worked on a studio in San Francisco that was being rented for 21,000/month...Ridiculous. We have a 3bd 3ba and our rent is in the middle of the lower range.

ETA: These are all rents.......
An "average" 3bd house in our county is about 560,000.

In my area to rent it's about $2500+, with the average being about $3k. Not bad for a safe area of the borough, just doesn't have as many amenities as your neck of the woods. But lots of people are moving to my area because they're being priced out!

In my neighborhood, the lowest would probably be $2500, but I've seen them far upwards of that. It just depends how grimy you are willing to go. You could probably find a college crash pad for slightly less, but a family home would start at $2500. There is a 3br on my block going for $4000 right now.

In our town of 8,000 we have a crazy competitive rental market. Properties are often gone within 24 hours of being advertised as for rent. Currently a 3 bedroom runs anywhere from $1600 (cheap) to $2,500.

For an adequate, but definitely not fancy apartment, $1500 would get you 3BR and a bit over 1300 sq ft. If you want a single-family house, it would be $2000+.

For my neighborhood and others nearby with similar demographics, a quick scan of CL says about $2250-2600. These are mainly townhomes and single-family homes, since there aren't very many 3-br apartments around here. Other parts of the city seem to range from $3500+ (tony neighborhoods with amazing views) or in the $1200-1500 range (further away neighborhoods with less "desirable" characteristics).

I live in a 900 sq ft 2 bedroom apt outside the MSP/St. Paul MN metro and we pay close to 1k with utilities.

For a 3 bedroom the rent jumps to about $1200 (without utilities) and that's an apartment. For renting a house it's more like $1500-$1700. Housing here is too expensive in comparison with median income and other costs. It's the price of a nice suburb without being a nice suburb. I want to move!
