I went to cosmetology school but never worked in a salon. I recently decided to add in some ombré and the girl I went to didn't do exactly what I wanted. So I tried it myself and it turned out ok! I've learned that my hair looks best a certain length and that requires frequent clean ups in order to make my mornings easier. My stylist is amazing and the shape really holds--like, I just saw a bunch of colleagues after summer break who complimented my haircut, which was back in May, lol. I usually apply products when it's wet, or slightly dampen my hair to reapply on days that I don't shower, so just a few minutes in the morning. I only shampoo like once a week, and shower/use conditioner like every other day-ish. I have reduced costs by not getting it highlighted and really just touching up my color and not doing an all over color most of the time. Basically, cut short then let it grow. I let it air dry or lately have been blowing it dry after putting in some gel. I wash every other day. </p> <p>I have some greys, most likely will keep and don't plan on dyeing. It's depressingly pointless because the results last a week tops, if I wait that long to wash my hair. At home maintenance would take an hour each day, but I prefer to use the hour on extra sleep and chores, so I should probably cut it all off. Haven't done that only because I'm waiting for a day when I'm magically going to be less tired and can care for my hair again! So 3 to 5 hours a year, I suppose. I hate upkeep on color. I did before kids so it just doesn't seem worth it to me to make the effort/put out the money after kids. I have a LOT of grey, though, so I dye it every 6-8 weeks, plus I don't like how it looks air dried so I blow dry every day and flat iron when I have plans or when I'm working.
