@winniebee: haha M & A always eat 2-3 hot dogs. 🙈 But they won't usually eat burgers. But I would assume at least one per. That way some might not take a hot dog and some might take more. Especially because you have a lot of sides. :)

@regberadaisy: I'm not the one bringing the Mahi Mahi burgers (SIL doesn't eat chicken/fish) so I'm not sure how much she is bringing. My concern is maybe some people don't eat red meat and she won't bring enough Mahi. I could do veggie skewers instead? I've never seen a kid eat 2-3 hot dogs! But I should probably do more like 48 hot dogs and 24 burgers? I can always freeze the hot dogs that aren't used.

I would probably eliminate the chicken unless for dietary reasons. If it were my crowd I know more would go for the mahi mahi since burger is more typical fare. And waaay more hot dogs! Most kids I know will eat 2-3 easy, as will the adults. And they're awesome for leftovers. :)

I personally would only eat one, but my husband would probably eat two, so that's how I would plan. I've found the more you put out, the more people eat and then they complain how they over ate...my family can be really annoying.

And I'd also have the mahi mahi because I've never had that before!

I think that seems about right. I would generally plan on having enough of the mains each to cover the adults (e.g., don't just have 12 hamburgers in case lots of people want that), but I don't think you need to plan on 24 each of the hamburgers, fish, AND chicken. So 16-20 of one of them seems fine, depending on how your family tends to eat (e.g, red meat heavy, etc). And I would assume that most kids would have a hot dog, although they don't have to / adults could too.

Plus you'll have plenty of other sides to fill in the extra hungries :)

Yes, that is what I would assume! 2 of each meat for adults
Plus kids, maybe a few more hotdogs/burgers

We have a big family. There are 24 adults and 16 kids (under the age of 7) coming to T's birthday party on Saturday. It's a BBQ. We're having hamburgers, hot dogs, mahi mahi burgers and probably chicken breasts. Pasta salad, potato salad, fruit salad. Cake and ice cream. Veggies and dip/ chips and ssalsa for apps. How much would you assume for numbers?

I'm thinking each person will eat a hamburger and hot dog or a hot dog and chicken or burger and chicken. So 2 items each? Does that sound right? So thinking 24 hot dogs, 24 burgers, 20 mahi mani, and maybe 12 chicken breasts (cut in half after grill)?
