I go mostly barefoot or wear those moccassin fuzzy slippers from AE that I get for Christmas. The only pair of shoes I bought last year were a $40 pair of Chucks from the outlet store. I considered them the "modern Keds" for preggos, so I had to have a pair! I buy maybe 2-3 pairs a year tops, and they're almost all from Target and under $30. I sold about half of my shoe collection before I got married. Made maybe 3k from the sales. Killed me because I only got back like 25% of their retail value. That being said. I probably own.. 15 pairs of shoes total now. It would have to be in the ten thousand dollar range. And that is only what's in my closet right now, not including the many pairs of shoes I have donated or given away. I run, walk and sprint more than the average bear. So... my regular shoes I wear out in 3-6 months including my running shoes, my cleats, my hiking boots, and my walking/work shoes. My dress shoes last forever because I rarely dress up. So... maybe $1000-1500 on shoes that just mostly sit there (but look fabulous when I have to dress up), and well over that amount in my lifetime on walking and running shoes. I'll guess $6000ish in my life for "practical" shoes? I remember seeing pictures of Imelda Marcos' shoe collection, and just being amazed. Wow, that's a big shoe budget! The thing about shoes though is that they are like belts: you wear them every day. If you have a good one, it can be a great value even if the shoes are kinda expensive. The danger though is that buying shoes can be addictive. How many shoes do you own, and how much have you spent on shoes in your lifetime?
