@thepicklemonster: Thanks, that's pretty much exactly what my guy is doing, although sometimes even less than 6 ounces! And I've also noticed he's going longer between feeds, where before he'd be starving and angry by 3 hours, now he's on more of a 4-hour schedule, but not taking bigger feeds, so it equals less. Sadly he's still waking up at night though, so gets a little bit more in there.

Totally normal. DS is EFF and he maxed out at nearly 40 oz per day for MONTHS before he started lots of solids. Now at 8 months this is the schedule:
7 am: 6.5 oz bottle
8 am: Yogurt and fruit purée with cereal
11 am: 6.5 oz
Noon: cheese and veggie purée, puffs
3 pm: 6.5 oz
5: Dinner, we usually attempt BLW small pieces of whatever we are eating and if that fails, another pouch
7 pm: bedtime bottle 6.5 oz

So we are down to 26 oz of formula. Ped said he will naturally tell us he wants less formula as he continues to eat more.

I followed LO's lead ... she was 80-90% FF at that point. I will say, she refused a bottle the morning of her first bottle, and at that point, we just switched to water for hydration and food for nutrition.

Same experience. LO maxed out on formula prior to solids and after solids he drank about 16-20 oz a day.

@Goldengirl: Yes, it totally is! For awhile daycare would be asking for more milk...and then suddenly he wasn't even finishing 12 oz. I was a bit stressed about it, but they tested iron and stuff at his nine-month appointment and it was normal, so that was comforting.

@FaithFertility: 7 months! Eating solids 3 times a day.

@MrsSCB: Thanks, good to know! I'm going to talk to a dietician at his doctor's office just to make sure, but I'm sure she will say it's normal... just felt so sudden since he couldn't get enough formula just a few weeks ago.

My son started eating less from his bottles at daycare around 8-9 months. He probably drinks around 10 oz. while he's there now. He does also nurse before bed and in the morning, and usually once overnight, but of course I have no idea how many oz that is. He LOVES food, though, he's never refused anything we've given him. I asked about it at his nine-month appointment, and she said most babies still get the majority of their nutrition from breastmilk or formula at that age, but that as long as he's eating well, he might be one of the kids who makes the transition to food a little earlier. She didn't seem too concerned.

@Alba4: Thanks! I thought I had read that it shouldn't start dropping until he's eating bigger meals/is older, but maybe he's eating more than average, I have no idea!

LO is EFF and up until a couple weeks ago was taking in quite a lot of milk, up to 32-35 ounces. The past week or so I've noticed he's way less interested in drinking and taking way smaller amounts per bottle, for a total of closer to 25 oz a day. He has solids (mostly purees) 3 times a day. I'm not purposely cutting down his bottle feeds as I know it's still where he gets most of his nutrition until age 1, but he seems to just be doing it on his own. Just wondering if this happened with your babies as well??
