Right now, LO is 9.5 months and he has two 6 ounce bottles during the work day with a nursing session either before or after work depending on when he wakes up in the morning. My work day is 8 hours and he generally eats every 3.5-4 hours. I often nurse him instead of one of the bottles, though.

My LO almost always needed 12 oz, from 3 months until we weaned to hemp milk at 12 months. I would leave 3 4oz bottles plus an extra 2oz in case she needed more. There were a few weeks when she would consistently drink all 14oz, during growth spurts or when she started crawling. I should say though that she never drank more than 6 oz at a time ever, so she may have needed less than your LO.

6 months, I left 3 6-7oz bottles (18-19oz) and I've recently cut her back because I can't pump that much so she's 7 mo and gets 3 5.5-6oz bottles (17-18oz) a day. FWIW, at 3-4 mo she was only getting 3 4oz bottles (12oz) a day. I upped it because it helped her sleep better (eat less) at night.

If she's still hungry, she gets real food/purees. She hasn't been eating during the day yet (we just did "dinner" at 5pm after 6mo) but this week she's started to get hungry during the day so it's the first time she's eaten solids twice a day in addition to her milk.

I've estimated, she always eats on the higher end, up to 30/32oz a day. I think 25oz a day is average, with ranges of 20oz-32oz.

6-9 months she took 12 oz. 3 4oz bottles) now that she's eating solids, she takes about 9oz. This is breastmilk not formula.

The general rule of thumb is 1-1.25 oz per hour you're away.

You'll want to pump every time he eats while you're gone. Your body will adapt and pump what he needs. It won't take long I figure it out. Send a little extra for backup jut in case until you get into a routine. Good luck!

@Little Misters Mom: I still have them feed him every 2-3 hours, even though I know he could do 3-3.5. So I take 4 (4oz) bottles. I am starting to think he might need to take more oz, less frequently though...

ETA: We have a 30 min commute each way to daycare so I make sure they feed him pretty soon after drop off and pretty close to pick up so I don't have an angry/hungry baby on the drive home.

At that age he needed three 5oz bottles for the workday - so 15 oz total.

@lilyann: How many bottles does he take? Like two 8 oz bottles, four 4 oz, or something in between? Did daycare just figure this out for you?

I leave 16oz for DS (5.5 months) for a 9 hour work day. Since he has some baby food at daycare, he hasn't been drinking all of his milk.

How old is LO and how much milk do you leave to cover 8-10 hours?

DS is going to be 6 months and he takes an 8.5 oz bottle from DH in the morning and then nurses on demand the rest of the day/night. I'm trying to figure out how much I'll need to pump and the distribution of bottles (oz/hours) so we can work towards getting him used to that schedule.
